Joy Spivey, 76 

Mrs. Joy Spivey, age 76 of Phoenix, Arizona and formerly of Coleman, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at 2:30 a.m. at the Safford Arizona Hospital.  Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4th at 2:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with James Bailey officiating.  Burial will follow at Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Joy was born August 24, 1924 in Santa Anna, Texas to Herman Franklin Driskill and Clara Agnes Welch.  She married Eugene Spivey in Coleman on July 1, 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1992.  She spent most of her life in Coleman and was a nurse at Holiday Hill.  She was a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie and Sonny Tucker of Clifton, Arizona and Shirley and John Cossey of Coos Bay, Oregon; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Judy Spivey of Kemp, Texas, Terry and Kay Spivey of Tucson, Arizona, and Wayne and Dondee Spivey of Duncan, Arizona; sister-in-law, Patsy Driskill of Coleman; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Dellene Driskill of Coleman; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herman, and mother, Agnes, and a brother, Jiggs.  Family visitation will be tonight (Thursday) at the funeral home from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Pallbearers will be Gregg and Dennis Spivey, Gary and David Driskill, Jerry Wright, John Holtz, Johnny Baugh and Lester Neador.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o the First Coleman National Bank, 100 S. Commercial Avenue, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Vera Craig, 94

Vera Craig of Coleman died Wednesday evening, May 2, 2001, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p. m. Friday, May 4th, at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Kermit Sorrells officiating.  Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman is in charge of arrangements.

She was born in 1906 in Harrison, Arkansas but had been a resident of Coleman since 1914.  She married Fred Craig in 1924 and he preceded her in death in 1976.  Vera was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Bill Craig of Coleman; one daughter, Noretta Pinkard of Henderson, Nevada; one brother, Grady Boyd of Lake Brownwood; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Carl E. Faubion, 80

Carl E. Faubion, age 80, of Coleman, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. G. Dean Coultas officiating.  Burial will follow at Talpa Cemetery.

Carl E. Faubion was born February 6, 1921 in Crews, Texas and was a son of Lonnie A. and Willie Miller Faubion.  He grew up in Crews and graduated from high school there.  He attended Howard Payne on a basketball scholarship and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.  Following the war, he returned to Crews where he farmed until becoming a rural mail carrier in Talpa, retiring after 34 years.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coleman and until his illness in 1997, he was active in the community.

Survivors include his wife, Edde May Faubion of Coleman; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Louwanda Faubion of Houston; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Pat McQueen of Brownwood; two step-daughters, Shariann (and husband Dub) Wallis of Coleman and Jeannette (and husband Gene) Alexander of Bedford, Texas; two brothers, Noble Faubion of Crews and Aubrey Faubion of Ballinger; three sisters, Lavinia Webb of Dallas, Elnita Tackett of Odessa, Texas and Nelda Thomason of Norton, Texas; five grandchildren, Staci Faubion, Shauna Nix, Stephanie Faubion, Shane Monroe, Shelley Monroe; five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by Pearl Faubion, Sybil Faubion, Sam Faubion and Winona Goode.

Clifford "Cliff" Morris, 84

Clifford Morris of Brownwood, formerly of Santa Anna, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, May 7th at First Baptist Church of Santa Anna with Mike Stevens officiating.  Burial will follow at Santa Anna Cemetery, directed by Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  Family visitation will be from 6:00 p. m. until 7:30 p. m. Sunday at Henderson Funeral Home.

Cliff was born in 1916 in Coleman County and attended Buffalo Schools.  He married Viola Phillips in 1942 in Brownwood and she preceded him in death in 1989.  He married Barbara Ford in 1990 in Brownwood.  Clifford was a Coleman County resident most of his life until he moved to Brownwood ten years ago.  He owned and operated Riteway Pest Control until retiring in 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Morris of Brownwood; daughter, JoAnn Keller of Pampa; step-daughter, Karen Wheller of Belton; step-son, Larry Roberts of Grants Pass, Oregon; four sisters, Gladys McGee of Tulsa, Annie Mearl Morris and Cleta Mae Bowen of Coleman and Sybil Martin of Santa Anna; a brother, Willis Morris of Santa Anna; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

Maurice Ivy Sorrells, 62

Maurice Sorrells of George West, Texas died at his residence Saturday morning.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 7th at the First United Methodist Church in George West.  Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in San Patricio Garden in Taft, Texas.  Services are directed by Galloway & Sons Funeral Directors of Beeville, Texas.

Local survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Kermit and Sue Sorrells of Coleman.

Edith Jones, 98

Edith Jones of Coleman died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Sipe Springs Cemetery in Comanche County with Dr. Charles Sheffield officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born in 1903 in Comanche County, graduated from May High School and later Daniel Baker College.  She married Rufe Oxford who preceded her in death.  She later married Lester Jones who also preceded her in death.  She was a homemaker and member of Concho Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Phillip Oxford of Coleman; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

Steven A. Castillo II, 21

Steven A. Castillo II, died Sunday, May 6, 2001 at his residence in Stephenville.  Services are pending at St. John's Catholic Church in Hondo, Texas under direction of Dawson Funeral Home.

Steven was born June 29, 1979 in Hondo.  He lived in Hondo until 1995 when he moved to Coleman residing with Andy and Mary Ellen Mares.  He graduated from Coleman High School in 1997.  He attended Angelo State University, worked at Holiday Hill for two years then moved to Stephenville in the summer of 2000.  He was employed by Appleton Electric at the time of his death.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include his father, Cipriano Castillo; his mother, Janie Mares; three sisters, Clair Castillo, Clovia Bosworth and Valerie Valle; grandmothers, Juanita Castillo and Maria Ignacia Mares; three cousins, Doug Salas, Natalie Mares and A. J. Mares of Coleman; one nephew, Sedric Castillo.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday, May 13th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Coleman.  Flowers can be sent to 709 West 7th Street in Coleman.

Claudine Shelton, 95

Claudine Shelton of Coleman died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. G. Dean Coultas officiating.  Burial will follow at Stewardson Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shelton was born in 1906 in Hill County and was a daughter of Cyrus E. and Bertha Frazier Evans.  She moved to Coleman County in 1907 and lived in the Shields community until moving to Coleman in 1969.  On January 1, 1925 she married Edgar Shelton and he preceded her in death on May 7, 1994.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include two grandsons, Mike (and wife Sally) Shelton of Fredericksburg and Randy Shelton of Carrollton; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Shelton Ludwick of Winters; one sister-in-law, Jeri Evans of Stephenville; three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Family visitation will be held from 5:30 p. m. until 7:00 p. m. Thursday at Stevens Funeral Home.

Donald William Seltzer, 64

Don Seltzer of Holiday Island, just north of Eureka Springs, died May 9, 2001 after a bout with melanoma cancer.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, May 13th at the Burkett Cemetery in Coleman County.

He was born in Pennsylvania and joined the Army at the age of 17.  While stationed at Fort Hood, he met and married his wife Maxine Burkett Seltzer.  She preceded him in death in 1989.

Survivors are his step-mother, Arlene Seltzer of Pennyslvania; a brother, Lloyd Seltzer and wife Janet of New Jersey; a sister, Cheryl Menois and husband Dale of Omaha, Nebraska; three children, Matthew and wife Carolyn Seltzer of Huntsville, Arkansas, Kathleen Harvey and husband David of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Sharon Land and husband Larry of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren.

James L. Golson, 75 

James Golson of Burkett died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Sunday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating.  Burial will follow in Burkett Cemetery.  Family visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m. Saturday.

He was born in 1925 in Burkett, grew up in Burkett and graduated from high school there in 1942.  He graduated from Southwest Texas State with a Bachelor of Science Degree and two years later a Masters Degree.  On August 24, 1951 he married Elizabeth Anne Word in San Marcos.  He was an educator in Fort Stockton and Big Lake and was principal for 16 years in Bronte, retiring in 1975.  Upon his retirement, he returned to Burkett.  He had been a member of the Lions Club, Texas Association of School Prinicipals, Texas State Teachers Association and Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of Burkett Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Liz Golson of Burkett; one son and daughter-in-law, Jake and Kathy Golson of Bloomfield, New Mexico; one daughter, Michelle Wilkowich of Coleman; three brothers, Pete Golson of Rankin, Joe Golson of Coleman and Roy Golson of San Antonio; one sister, Beth Kleiber of Burkett; six grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Mahala McMeans, 93 

Mahala McMeans of Canadian, formerly of San Angelo, died Friday, May 11, 2001 in Canadian, Texas.  Graveside services will be at 3:00 p. m. Tuesday at Valera Cemetery in Valera, Texas with Rev. Bob Johnson, pastor of Westside Baptist Church in San Angelo, officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors in Canadian.

She was born in 1908 in Valera to Jim and Mary Bailey Gassiot.  She married Harvey McMeans in 1926 in Valera.  He preceded her in death in 1987.  She was a bootmaker for Maynard Boot Shop.  She was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in San Angelo and had been active in the First Baptist Church of Canadian upon moving there in 1990.

Survivors include one son, Russell McMeans of Lake Buchanan Dam, Texas; one daughter, Hazel Williams of Canadian; one sister, Ruth Laird of Livingston; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Edna June Gibbins of Mullin died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Greenleaf Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Gibbins of Mullin; two brothers, Elmer Rodgers of Coleman and Rex Rodgers of Stephenville; two nephews and four nieces.

Goldie Milberger, 92

Goldie Milberger of Rockwood died Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Coleman Healthcare Center.  Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Friday at Rockwood Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Jones officiating, under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

She was born in 1908 in Gouldbusk and grew up and went to school in Rockwood.  She married Lee Milberger in Rockwood in 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1949.  She was a member of Rockwood Baptist Church where she had served as the Sunday school secretary and teacher.  She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one brother, Harold McCarrell of Coleman.

Stanley Ray Riley, 60

Stanley Ray Riley died on May 18, 2001 in Houston, Texas, after a seven year battle with cancer.  Funeral services were held at 11:00 a. m. Monday, May 21, 2001 at First United Methodist Church West Campus.  A visitation was held at Forest Park Funeral Home.

Stanley Riley was born in 1940 in Coleman.  After graduating high school in 1958 and attending Texas Tech, he served for two years in the United States Army between 1963 and 1965.  Subsequently, he spent 21 years in the banking industry, working as a state bank examiner before serving as an executive officer for Continental Bank, Allied Bank and The Ashford Bank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.S. and Robbie Riley, brothers W.S.Riley, Dave and Dewey Riley, and sisters Jean Sinclair and Joann McIntosh.  Survivors include: his wife of 33 years, Susan Riley; a son and daughter-in-law, Mitch and Betsy Riley; a son, Luke Riley; a brother, Don Riley.

Ernest William Ramsey, 77

Ernest Ramsey of Clyde died May 24, 2001 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Home in Coleman.  Rev. Mike Reddin and Rev. Michael McBride will officiate.  Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery.

Ernest was born in 1924 in Tennessee and married Mary Betty Hamon in Loudon, Tennessee in 1946.  He was a World War II Veteran, retired from the oil business and was a member of the Baptist Church.  He had lived in Clyde since 1980.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; three daughters, Patricia Bowman of Loudon, Tennessee, Karen Westmoreland of Madison, North Carolina and Sheila Allen of Odessa; one son, Luke Ramsey of Irving; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Tishie Cullins, 70

Tishie "Speedy" Cullins, age 70, of Coleman, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at her residence.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Dr. Charles Sheffield officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cullins was born May 9, 1931 in Gaines County, Texas and was the daughter of John E. Lackey and Daisy Lavada Johnson Lackey.  She grew up in Seminole and Lamesa.  On May 1, 1949 she married James F. Cullins in San Angelo. She lived in several West Texas towns, including Ozona from 1972 to 1979, and moved to Coleman twelve years ago.  She had been a waitress and cashier in restaurants and was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, James F. Cullins of Coleman; one sister, Billie Abshier of Abilene, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a son, Tony Cullins, in 1991.

William D. "Shine" Jones, 87

William "Shine" Jones of Coleman died at 5:00 p. m. Wednesday May 30, 2001 at his residence.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday at Brown Ranch Cemetery. Rev. Paul Smith, pastor of Community Baptist Church, will offficiate.  Walker Funeral Home is in charge of the services.  Family visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home.

He was born in Fisk in 1913.  He was a carpenter, a Baptist and lifetime county resident.  He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corp.

Survivors include one daughter, Margetta Morgan of Granbury; two sons, Terry Jones of Granbury and Larry Jones of Jones Creek, Texas; two sisters, Mary Ruth Felts of San Bernadino, California and Mrs. Fred (Tela) Simonton of Gouldbusk; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Marcie Meers, 42

Marcie Meers died Thursday, May 31, 2001 at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Beltway Baptist Church, 4009 Beltway South in Abilene, with Rev. David McQueen officiating.  Burial will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the Beltway Baptist Church from 10:00 a. m. until noon on Saturday.

Marcie was born May 1, 1959 in Abilene and was the daughter of Wayne and Dollie Sparkman.  She grew up in Midland and graduated from Midland High School in 1977.  On November 3, 1984 she married Monte Meers in Abilene.  She had lived in Abilene for many years.  She was a member of Beltway Baptist Church and the Emmaus Community.

Survivors include her husband, Monte Meers of Abilene; two sons, Bryan Meers and Nic Meers both of Abilene; one daughter, Sabrina Meers of Abilene; her mother, Dollie Sparkman of Coleman; two brothers, Bill Sparkman of College Station and Darwin Sparkman of San Antonio.

Memorials can be made to any Christian outreach ministry.

Clark Mayo, 80

Clark Mayo, age 80, of Coleman, died Thursday, May 31, 2001 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Graveside services will he held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Carlton Young officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Mayo was born May 17, 1921 in Oklahoma and was the son of H. G. and Mabel Brothers Mayo.  He grew up in Roosevelt, Oklahoma and attended school there.  He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.  In 1953 he moved to Coleman and had lived here since that time.  He was a carpenter and a Baptist.

Survivors include one brother, Burnard Mayo of Big Spring, Texas; sister-in-law, Carrie Mayo of New Boston, Texas; three nieces; two nephews.
