Jack Henderson, 85

Jack Henderson, age 85, of Coleman passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2001 at 9:35 p. m., at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Coleman with Rev. Gary Boyd and Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Interment will follow at Coleman City Cemetery directed by Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

Jack was born November 1, 1915 in Greenville, Texas to the late William Jesse and Lela Mae Ship Henderson.  He was raised in Crosby County, Texas where he graduated from the Robinson Schools.  Jack married Cliffie Mae Harris on December 23, 1942 in Brownfield, Texas and they had celebrated 58 years of marriage.  He was a World War II veteran, serving with the parachute infantry and was a 22 month prisoner of war in Germany.  He currently has two grandsons serving in the Air Force and two in the Navy.  Jack was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church and a pipeline welder for 31 years with Amaco Pipeline.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Henderson of Coleman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Bill Terry of Moulton, Alabama and Lillie and Jim Walters of May, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Ann Henderson of Byers, Colorado and Pat and Tricia Henderson of Coleman; two brothers, Judson Henderson of Brownfield and Bill Henderson of Odessa; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchidlren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Pallbearers were B. J. Deal, Jerry Hubbard, Scott Ogden, Harold Phillips, Keith Phillips and John Puckett.  Honorary pallbearers included Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Coleman.

Inez Loyd, 68

Inez Loyd, age 68, of Mozelle, Texas passed away Thursday, March 1, 2001 at 11:17 p.m. at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Graveside services were Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Kermit Sorrells and Rev. Bobby Weathers officiating.  Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman was in charge of arrangements.

Inez was born in Brown County, Texas on June 18, 1932 to the late Elmer Calvin and Jessie Dickey Evans.  She was reared in Brown County where she attended the Brown County schools.  Inez married John Henry Loyd in Indian Creek on November 6, 1949 and they had celebrated 51 years of marriage.  John and Inez lived in Santa Anna until 1986 where she was a bus driver for the Santa Anna ISD.  They then moved to Mozelle where they have since resided.  She was a member of the Gouldbusk United Methodist Church and a housewife.

Survivors include her husband, John Loyd of Mozelle, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Jim Campbell of Guffey, Colorado; Sharon and Grady Woodcox of Valera, Texas and Jacqueline (Jac) and Marshall Bowman of White Chapel, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Michelle Loyd of Coleman, Texas; two brothers, Dick Evans of Santa Anna, Texas and Bobby Evans of Keller, Texas; two nieces and six nephews; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.  Pallbearers were Michael Loyd, Darrell Woodcox, Stephen Loyd,
Dejsha Woodcox, M. J. Loyd, Andrew Woodcox, Katy Campbell, Connie Woodcox, Codi Loyd, Charlie Bowman, Jim Campbell, Collie Bowman, Jessi Loyd, Kelly Loyd, and Mark Loyd.

Tony F. Sanchez, 57

Tony F Sanchez, 57, a retired welder, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2001, at a Fort Worth hospital.  Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Fort Worth with burial following at Mount Olivet Cemetery.  Rosary was 7 p.m. Sunday at Mount Olivet Chapel.  Mount Olivet Funeral Home of Fort Worth was in charge of arrangements.

Tony F. Sanchez was a member of Knights of Columbus #4709 and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Eva Sanchez, and a brother, Bobby Sanchez.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Peggy Sanchez of Fort Worth; daughters, Roberta M. Sanchez and
Christopher Ramon, Rebecca Sanchez and husband, Ronald Sakis; sons, Ricky F. Sanchez and wife, Cynthia, Tony J. Sanchez and Mary Reyes, Robert M. Sanchez and wife, Felicia; eight grandsons and ten granddaughters; brothers, Joe and Jesse Sanchez of Fort Worth, Willie Sanchez of Coleman, Charles Sanchez of Monterrey, Mexico; sisters, Mary Alcala of Coleman, Marie Espitia and Mary Esther Villalpando of Fort Worth; and his father, Antonio G. Sanchez of Coleman.

Richard J. Goble, 60

Richard J. Goble, age 60, died Friday, March 2, 2001 at a hospital in Abilene.  Graveside services were held at 3 p. m. Sunday in Cross Plains Cemetery, directed by Parker Funeral Home.

Mr. Goble was born in Baird.  He was a retired oil field driller, and served in the United States Army.

Survivors include two daughters, Jo Lee DeLeon and Tracy Lopez, both of Clyde; a son, Richard J. Goble, Jr. of CLyde; two sisters, Jackie Carey of Abilene and Gail Bradshaw of Coleman; and five grandchildren.

Tony Allen Haas, 40

Tony Haas, 40, of Clyde died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at his home.  Services will be at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Clyde with the Rev. Joel Densman, Dr. Jerry Joplin and the Rev. Larry Tarver officiating.  Burial will be in Santa Anna Cemetery.

Mr. Haas was born at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota.  He was a graduate of Abilene High School.  He married Joretta Densman in Tye, Texas.  He was a maintenance technician and worked for Lockheed and FMC.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clyde.

Survivors include his wife, Joretta Haas of Clyde; a son, Zachery Haas of Clyde; his mother, Ileane Haas of Hawley; two brothers, Dennis Haas of Burnet and Rex Haas of Anson; two sisters, Susan Redinger of Gardner, Kansas and Ricki Haas Caswell of Smeyer.  A son, Christopher Bryan Haas, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. Monday at Bailey Funeral Home in Clyde.

Karon Grace McDaniel Westerfield, 46 

Karon Grace McDaniel Westerfield, age 46 of Sansom Park died Sunday, March 4, 2001 at Sansom Park.  Services will be held at 9:00 a. m. Thursday at Shannon North Funeral Chapel.  Graveside services will be at 2:30 p. m. at the Atoka Cemetery at Novice, Texas.  Local services will be directed by Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

Karen enjoyed writing and doing Indian art.  She was an avid camper and loved bass fishing.  She was a member of Inspiration Point Baptist Church.  She donated time and gifts to the Indian Reservation.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Delanie Rose and Dannie Phillips of Springtown, Texas; father and mother, Floyd and Laura McDaniel of Sansom Park, Texas; two sisters, Brenda Clay of Lake Worth, Texas and Susan Denson of Rowlett, Texas; one granddaughter, Taylor Shannon Phillips.  She was preceded in death by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kincaid.

Morris Ray Cavanaugh, 66

Morris Ray Cavanaugh, age 66, of Cross Plains, died Monday, March 5, 2001 at Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene.  Services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Higginbotham Funeral Chapel in Cross Plains with burial in the Burkett Cemetery.  Long-time friend, Joe Coppinger, pastor of Cottonwood Baptist Church officiated.

Morris was born August 24, 1934 in Santa Anna, Texas to Alvie Raymond and Altha Jane (Bond) Cavanaugh.  He was the grandson of Callahan County pioneers Jackson Lee and Mary Ann (Hicks) Cavanaugh and Hiram Holland and Mary Elizabeth (Baum) Bond.  He had lived alt of his life in Callahan County near the Dressy Community with the exception of the time he served in the Army and college days at Tarleton University in Stephenville.  He was a stock farmer and worked in the ‘oil patch’ as a driller.  He was a memrber of Cottonwood Baptist Church.  On June 20, 1973, he married Bettie Sue Burkett Yates in Abilene.  With that marriage came two children, who became his own, Kimberly Anne Yates and Jerry Lynn Yates.  Morris and Bettie had one daughter, Elizabeth Jane.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie of Cross Plains; his daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth Jane and David Lee Weide of Abilene and Kimberly Anne and Raymond Lynn Tatom of Clyde; seven grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, a special aunt, Vesta Bond; a son, Jerry Lynn Yates; and great-granddaughter, Christa Nicole Yates.  Pallbearers were Dwayne Wilson, Benny Free, Allen Phillips, N. L. Dillard,
Donnie Dillard and James Reynolds.  Honorary pallbearer was Nathan Foster.

Clem Wilkinson, 78

Clem Wilkinson, age 78, of Coleman died Monday, March 5, 2001 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Coleman Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wilkinson was born May 13, 1922 at Echo, Texas and was the daughter of William Adolphus Shelton and Mossie V. Ella Beeler Shelton.  She grew up in Coleman County and graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1938.  She attended nursing school at Sealy Hospital in Santa Anna and was an Licensed Vocational Nurse for over 50 years, working at Sealy Hospital and Overall - Morris Memorial Hospital in Coleman.  She also worked for Dr. Morris Mann and Dr. Carl Kobler.  On May 14, 1954, she married Arthur Wilkinson in Terrell, Texas.  She was Baptist and a member of the Ladies Auxilary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Wilkinson of Coleman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Jill Ball of Granbury and Brad and Brenda Wilkinson of Coleman; four grandchildren, Colt and John Wilkinson of Coleman, Charles (Chip) Ball of Granbury and Eric Zirngible of Granbury.  Several cousins also survive.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.  Family visitation will be held from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. Tuesday night at Stevens Funeral Home.

Josephine "Jodie" Buck Henderson, 73 

Josephine Henderson, age 73, of San Angelo passed away March 6, 2001 at Regency House after a lengthy illness.  The family will receive friends today (Thursday) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be hold at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Johnson’s Funeral Home, 435 W. Beauregard, with Rev. Bill Fuller of the First Baptist Church of Ozona officiating.  Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Jodie was born April 20, 1927 in Gouldbusk, Texas to Forest and Maidie Buck.  She graduated from Mozelle High School in 1946.  She went to work for Dr. G. C. Yarbough in Coleman, Texas.  She moved to Odessa and worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator.  She married H. Ray Henderson in Midland, Texas on July 21, 1951.  She graduated from Aladdin Beauty School while living in Odessa.  Although Jodie and her husband lived in various West Texas towns, they left Odessa in 1965 to move to Ozona where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.  There they owned and operated the Whites Auto Store until they retired in 1989.  They moved to San Angelo in January of 1998.  Jodie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Thurman Buck and Leon Buck.

Survivors include her husband, H. Ray Henderson of San Angelo; her daughters and sons-in-law, Nikki and Jimmy Dunn of Lamesa, Melissa and Mike Gustin of San Angelo; her son and daughter-in-law, Forest and LaVerne Henderson of
Odessa; her twin sister, Maxine Riley Stevens and husband N. E. of Odessa; her sister Betty Miller and husband Arbie of Wingate; her brother, Foy Jack Buck and wife Buddy of Abilene; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Buck of Coleman and Nadine Buck of Odessa; five grandchildren, Sabrina, Amy, Rachel, Rayanna, and Mitzi; two step-grandsons, Bryan and Chris; and three great-grandchildren, Trevor, Shayla and Kayli.

Jodie loved to be around people and her family.  We will all miss her very much.  Her family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care provided by all her caregivers and family and also to the many people who kept them in their prayers during her illness.  Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ozona or to Vista Care Hospice of San Angelo.  Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home, 435 W. Beauregard, San Angelo, Texas.

Emma Lonella Roesch, 89

Ms. Emma Lonella Roesch, age 89 of Santa Anna passed away in Brownwood Regional Medical Center Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at 9:56 p.m. ervices will he held Friday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. First United Methodist Church of Santa Anna with Rev. Rebecca Emery officiating.  Interment will follow In Santa Anna Cemetery under direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Lonella was born December 8, 1911 in Santa Anna the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs John and Myrtle Taylor.  She married Mr. Edward J. Roesch in Santa Anna and he preceded her in death in 1963.  She received a bachelor of Science degree from Howard Payne University and a Master degree from Hardin-Simmons University.  She taught school in Santa Anna and other places and was a home demonstration person in Clay County for over 20 years where she retired.  She moved back to Santa Anna in 1978 and was a member of First United Methodist.

A brother, John Walker Taylor preceded her in death.  Family visitation is tonight (Thursday) from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 366, Santa Anna, Texas 76878-0366.

Rosa Lee Payne, 60 

Rosa Lee Payne, age 60 died Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2001 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Wilson officiating.  Burial will follow at Burkett Cemetery under direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Payne was born December 14, 1940 in Coleman, a daughter of the late Herman Davis and Rosa Inez Davis.  She was reared and attended schools in Coleman and married Joe Payne on July 22, 1977 in Ballinger.  She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Crowder and James Crowder both of Coleman; one daughter, Cynthia Lewis of Coleman; two step-sons, Gary Payne and Jody Payne both of Coleman; her mother, Inez Davis of Coleman; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Susie Davis and Perry and Sheila Davis all of Coleman; one sister, Charlie Mae Boatright of Coleman; thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, husband and one daughter, Maria Crowder.  Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at the funeral home.

Stephens Craig Turner, 21

Funeral services for Stephens Craig Turner, age 21 of Odessa will be held today (Tuesday) March 13, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel in Conroe, Texas.  Interment will follow under the direction of Metcalf Funeral Directors in Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery.

Stephens was born July 11, 1979 in Rankin, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wayne Turner.

He is survived by his parents, Larry and Naomi Turner of Hobbs, New Mexico; mother, Melinda Kelly; sisters, Ruby Turner of Odessa, Crista Rininger of Ballinger and Sharon Turner of Coleman; brothers, Larry Wayne Turner of Sweetwater and Eddie Turner of Coleman; and grandmother, Ruby Turner of Coleman.

Julian Marcus (J. M.) Trent, 82 

Funeral services for Julian Marcus (J.M.) Trent, age 82, of Brownfield, Texas were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2001 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Leland Maples and Dan Chapman officiating.  Interment followed in the Burkett Cemetery.  Mr. Trent passed away at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2001, at his home at Lake Brownwood.

He was born November 8, 1918 in Mansfield, Texas to Emory (Mr. E.) and Myrtle (Granny Bob) Lowthorpe Trent.  He married Sandra Kay Darr on July 29, 1981.  Mr. Trent served in the U. S. Navy during World War Il in the Pacific on USS Elkhart from Sept. 9, 1944 until April 4, 1946.  He was self employed for 54 years as a rancher, and was an automobile dealer and insurance agent.  During his lifetime he worked in a ship yard in Houston, Texas, worked in the oilfield in Odessa, Texas, operated Chevron Station in Denver City,Texas and owned White Auto Store in Denver City, Texas.  Later he owned and operated automobile and mobile home dealerships, sold real. estate, owned rental properties, started a Farmers Insurance Agency.  He sold the dealership and insurance agency to his son, Bobby Trent in 1975 and moved to his Circle T Ranch in Rockwood, Texas and raised cattle, alfalfa, cotton, wheat and bred and raised running horses.  He later moved to Brownfield, Texas, in 1979 which is now the Circle T Ranch.  He had a second home at Lake Brownwood.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Kay (Darr) Trent of Brownfield, Texas; one son, Bobby Glen Trent of Denver City,
Texas; three daughters, Mary Ann Carter of New Braunfels, Texas, Patricia Ruth Culpepper of Liverpool, Texas and Martha Jean Dolloff of Andrews, Texas; one sister, Lelia Eunice (Trent) Yates of Odessa, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, William Cody Trent, H. O. Trent, James Emory Trent and
Ray Trent; by two sisters, Lillian Leal Maples and Mae Hunter.  Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood was in charge of arrangements.

Bessie Kimmell, 93 

Bessie Kimmell of Abilene, age 93 of Abilene and formerly of Coleman, died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at Sears Methodist Center.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Wilson officiating.  Burial will follow at Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kimmell was born April 29, 1907 in Gustine, Comanche County, Texas and was a daughter of Stewart Anderson Gallaway and Annie Brashear Gallaway.  She moved to Coleman County as a child and lived here until moving to Abilene in 1957.  On March 12, 1925 she married Thomas F. (Tom) Kimmell and he preceded her in death on May 7, 1993.  She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Alene Odom of Fort Worth; one son, Gene W. Kimmell of Fort Worth; five grandchildren, Judy Kay Kimmell, Glenda Mae Dorsey, Linda Gay Bryce, Cheryl Ann Belodau and Thomas F. Kimmell; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Willie Castleberry of Abilene.

She was preceded in death by a son, Doyle Kimmell in 1993 and a grand-daughter, Bessie Alene Gaines, in 1999.

Reginald Lee Jones, 43

Reginald Lee Jones, age 43, of Coleman passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2001, at 9:54 p.m. at Coleman County Medical Center.  Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Willow Baptist Church in Santa Anna, directed by Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

Reginald was born April 1, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia to Johnny Lee and the late Johnnie Mae Prather Jones.  He
graduated from George Washington High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Survivors include his father, Johnny Jones of Gallatin, Tenn.; three brothers, Jeffery Jones, Anthony Jones, Stevie Jones, all of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Tammy Jones of Atlanta, Georgia; several aunts and uncles including a local aunt and uncle, Evelyn and Ernest McCloud of Santa Anna, Texas.

Collin Matthew Barnett, infant

Collin Matthew Barnett, infant son of Roland and Kern Barnett, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco.  Graveside services were 2 p.m. Saturday at the family cemetery near Novice, with Rev. James Posey officiating.  Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Collin was born March 12, 2001 in Waco.

Survivors include his parents, Roland and Kern Barnett of Novice; grandparents, Mike and Gloria Beets of Novice and Roland and Regina Barnett of Silver Valley; great-grandparents, Juanita Beets of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Ervil and Sissy Milton of Wilmeth; and several aunts and uncles.

Edna Helms, 96

Edna Helms, age 96 life-time Coleman County resident, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Burkett Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Helms was born August 19, 1904 in Burkett, Texas and was a daughter of Y. C. Boyle and Nellie Jennings Boyle.  She grew up in Burkett and attended school there.  On August 20, 1922 she married Jim Helms in Burkett and he preceded her in death in 1975.  She moved to Coleman from Burkett in 1977.  She was a dedicated homemaker and ably assisted her husband with farming and ranching.  She was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters, Bettie Jean Helms of Abilene, Texas and Hazel Joyce Klutts and husband Barney of Lockhart, Texas; one sister, Cleta Trewitt of Belton, Texas; one brother, Otice Cleveland Boyle and wife Dora of Grandview, Texas; one grandson, Carios J. Mary Estelle Campbell, 84

Mary Estelle Campbell, age 84, of San Antonio and formerly of Coleman, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Retama Manor North in San Antonio.  Graveside services with Military Honors were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Dr. Dean Coultas officiating.  Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Campbell was born October 21, 1916 in Santa Anna, a daughter of Barney Bunleson, Sr. and Alta Flo Flippen Bunleson and the granddaughter of Charles and Estelle Flippen.  She grew up and attended schools in Coleman and graduated from Shannon Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and received her B.S.N. in Public Health Nursing from Incarnate Word University in San Antonio.  She married Harry G. Campbell on August 15, 1952 in San Antonio.  He preceded her in death on May 5, 1999.  Mrs. Campbell joined the Navy as Lieutenant in 1944 and was stationed in California and Hawaii.  After serving six years in the Navy, she received her teaching degree and taught in public schools during the 1960’s, retiring in 1980.

She is survived by one son, John B. Campbell of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Thomas and Ryan Campbell of San Antonio; two nephews, Micheal Burleson of Kingsland, Kelly Burleson of Austin; one niece, Andrea Burleson of Chicago, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Toni Bunleson of Kingsland; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and one brother, Barney Bunleson, Jr. in 1998.

Edith G. Miller, 88

Edith G. Miller, 88, of Eula, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at an Abilene nursing center.  Services were 2 p.m. Friday at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Meyers officiating.  Burial was in the Eula Cemetery.

Mrs. Miller was born December 14, 1912, in Fredonia.  She married Erston E. Harrison on April 17, 1944 in Baird.  He preceded her in death in 1968.  She married Rufus Asa Miller on September 28, 1981, at Baird.  Mrs. Miller was a schoolteacher at Kent County and Eula before her retirement.  She was a member of the Hiway 36 Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Rufus Miller of Jayton; two daughter, Melinda Hurt of Eula and Jane Ann Roby of
Girrard and four brothers, Gerald Reid and Manton Reid, both of Lawn, Clemmis Reid of Spring Valley, California and
Lawrence Reid of Coleman.

Annie Laura Barsch, 87

Annie Laura Wireman Barsch, 87, died March 14, 2001.  Graveside services were 3 p.m. Saturday at Elmwood Memorial Park with Mr. Mike Bolin officiating, under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home.

She was born January 15, 1914 in Belton, Texas to Lawrence Fletcher Wireman and Lena Arvilla Stephens Wireman.  She married Ornnold Karl Barsch in Coleman, Texas on July 8, 1945.  Her husband, a retired employee of Haliburton Oil Services, preceded her in death.  She was a homemaker and a Bible school teacher.  She retired in 1984 from Cloth World.  Mrs. Barsch was a member of Woodlawn Church of Christ.

Survivors include Phyllis and Mike Bolin of Abilene, Kathy and Carroll Casey of Cedar Park, grandchildren Laura Bolin Carroll of College Station, Casey Bolin of Abilene, Ross, Jared and Caitlin Casey of Cedar Park and a brother, Garland Wireman of San Angelo.

A son, Teddy Karl, preceded her in death.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of West Central Texas, 1926 Campus Court, Abilene, Texas 79601.

Jo Davee, 94 

Jo Davee, 94, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at a nursing center in Rising Star.  Services were 2 p.m. Monday at Higginbotham Chapel with Dr. Richard Chaffin officiating.  Burial followed in the Burkett Cemetery, directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains.  Mrs. Davee was born in Brown County.  She married William Davee in Coleman County.  He preceded her in death.  She taught school, and was a secretary at the Cewntral Texas Hospital.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Burkett.

Survivors include her sister, Lois Garrett of Cross Plains; and many nieces and nephews.  Memorials may be made to donor's favorite charity.

Billie Louise Baldock, 71 

Billie Louise Baldock, 71, of Brownwood, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at her daughter’s home in Brownwood.  Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Holcomb officiating.  Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.

She was born September 2, 1929 in Coleman and had lived in Brownwood for the past 23 years.  She married Earl Field Baldock in 1945 at Big Spring.  He preceded her in death in 1978.  She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Louis Baldock of Colorado; Ronnie Baldock of Big Spring; five dau9hters, Betty Atkinson, Shirlie Johnson, Kathy Johnson and Michelle Kemp, all of Brownwood, and Diane Turner of Coleman; her mother, Lynnie Clarece West of Santa Anna; a brother, Sammy Day of Abilene; three sisters, Wadean Green of Rising Star, Gertrude Bronner of Odessa and Carol Mitchell of Abilene; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and one son, Larry Baldock.

Ruby Gladys Strickland Hubbard, 86

Mrs. Ruby Gladys Strickland Hubbard, age 86, of Brownwood died Monday, March 19, 2001 at 11:30 p.m. at Oak Ridge Manor in Brownwood.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Central United Methodist Church in Brownwood with Rev. Kent Seuser, pastor of the church officiating, assisted by Dr. W. C. Strickland.  Burial will follow at Burkett Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born January 7, 1915 in Smithville, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Robert Tilton Weaver and Lillian Zelma Burchfield Weaver.  She married Thomas Cecil Strickland in Burkett in 1932 and he preceded her in death in
1960.  On December 21,1980, she married Russell Hubbard; he preceded her in death in 1989.  She lived her early life and raised her family in the Burkett area.  She was a retired LVN and a member of Central United Methodist Church of Brownwood.

Survivors include four daughters, Zelma Strickland of Beeville, Anita McCoy of Lubbock, Bonita Sheedy of Brownwood and Bobbie Strickland of Llano; one son, Dr. W. C. Strickland of Casterville; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Parker of Bedford; three brothers, R. O. Weaver, Hoyt A. Weaver of Mineral Wells and Noel Weaver of Corpus Christi; eight grandchildren; and 11
great-grandchildren.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at the funeral home in Coleman.

Cora Mable Tennyson, 78

Cora Mable Tennyson, age 78 passed away Monday, March 19, 2001 at Reagan County Care Center.  Services were held at First United Methodist Church in Big Lake with Tim Farenthold officiating.  Interment was in Glen Rest Cemetery in Big Lake under direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Mable was born February 1, 1923 the oldest child of Lucille Gertrude Gill and Charles Wesley Tennyson in the Whon area.  She married Alan Oliver in 1946 and later married Burt Bodiford who preceded her in death in September 2000.  One son, Charles Bodiford also preceded her in death at the age of 27.

She is survived by two sons and their families, Billy Joe Oliver of Trinidad and Kenneth Wayne Oliver of Elm Mott; one sister, Eula Mae Ellison of Big Lake;. and two brothers, Gus Tennyson of Portland, Oregon and Ernest Tennyson of San Angelo.

Tedi Ka Clark, 50

Tedi Ka Clark, age 50, born January 26, 1951 in Coleman Texas, passed away March 20, 2001 in Piano, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her father, Frank White.  Memorial service was held Saturday, March 24th, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Nativity, 2200 18th Street, Plano, Texas 75074, with Father Heenan officiating.

Survivors are one daughter, Megan Langley; mother and step-father, Freeda and Larry Kilgore; two brothers, Bill and Greg White, and a cousin and special friend, Susanne Jones.

Tedi, a resident of Piano and employee of Texas Instruments for over 23 years, is remembered by family and friends as an independent, straight-forward, strong willed person who had a loving, witty, imaginative quality which drew people to her.  She loved animals, plants, reading, springtime, and butterflies; but must especially being with her family and giving the gift of laughter.  We thank her so much for her strength and courage which will guide us through this difficult time.  She is our hero.

Her family requests that donations be made in Tedi’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 560089, Dallas, Texas 75356-0089.  Arrangements under the direction of North Texas Cremation Society, LLC, Addison, Texas.

Cecilio Sebastian Ramirez, infant son of Alma O. Pina and Cecilio Ramirez, passed away Tuesday, March 20,
2001.  Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Centro Evangelistioo Pentecostes Church with burial in Lawnhaven Memorial Garden.

He was born March 8, 2001.

Survivors include his parents, Alma D. Pina and Cecilio Ramirez; grandparents, Benito and Maria Cruz and Alicia
Ramirez; two aunts, Rosie Pina and Jessica Ramirez; and four uncles, Felix Pina, Noe Cruz, Andy Ramlrez and
Sammy Ramirez.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Samuel Ramlrez.  The Ramirez family resides in Santa Anna.

Sherrill Tisdale, 84 

Sherril Tisdale, age 84, of Coleman, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Elm Street Church of Christ with Donald Williams and Lyndon Key officiating.  Burial followed at Coleman Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Tisdale was born April 25, 1916 in Coleman, Texas and was a son of W. R. and Ethel Trusdale Tisdale.  He grew up in Coleman and attended school here.  He also attended Texas A&M University.  On, February 5, 1938, he married Edna Mae Sparks in Coleman.  He was a dairy farmer and rancher and was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Tisdale of Coleman; one son, James Tisdale (and wife Sarah) of Coleman; three grandchildren, Rick Tisdale (and wife Shawna) of Coleman, Sandra Lovelady (and husband Randall) of Tuscola, Lindra Pinkerton (and husband David) of Schertz; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hope Tisdale of Austin, Texas and Mary Yarbrough of Saginaw; and two brothers, Roy Tisdale of Belton and Mac Tisdale of Dickinson.

He was preceded in death two sisters and one brother.  Memorials may be made to Elm Street Church of Christ, 216 W. Elm Street, Coleman, Texas 76834 or Holiday Hill Nursing Home, 425 US 153, Coleman, Texas 76834.  Pallbearers included James Dieterich, Melton Kennedy, Roy Buse, Danny Jameson and ommy Sloan.  Honorary pallbearers were Pete Floyd, Herb Wood and Jimmie Drlskill.

Nevil Gene Stevenson, 58

Nevil Gene Stevenson, 58, of Roby passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2001 in an Abilene hospital.  Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Roby Methodist Church with Reverends Jerry Williams, Norman Burgess and Brandon Young officiating.  Burial fojlowed in the McCaulley Cemetery, under the direction of Weathersbee Funeral Home in Rotan.
 

Mr. Stevenson was born December 4, 1942 to Curtis and Sibyl Stevenson in Rotan.  On May 7, 1962 he married Sarah Young in Snyder, Texas.  He worked in the oil field and agriculture industry for many years.  He was a member of the Sylvester Baptist Church and had lived the majority of his life in Fisher County.  He was preceded in death by his father in 1975; a sister, Bonnie Bailey in September 2000; and his mother on March 16, 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Stevenson, of 38 years; two daughters, Marci Mayes and husband Rex of Coleman and Gena Stevenson of the home; two sons, Scott Stevenson and wife Stacy of Roby and Todd Stevenson and wife Debra of McCaulley; three sisters, Jo Rogers of Odessa, Nomi Almquist and husband Jack of Dunn, Texas and Ritzy Hodges of Abilene; two granddaughters, Mandy and Miranda; six grandsons, Tyler, Tanner, Trey, Colby, Mafl and Payton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Kerry Green, Jason Almquist, Marion Reed, Craig Rogers and Jim Rogers.

Warene Harmes, 77

Warene Harmes, age 77, of Coleman died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Jenkins officiating, assisted by Rev. Paul Smith.  Burial was in Coleman Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Harmes was born October 19, 1923 in Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of Brett White and Edna Mae Welch White.  She attended schools in an Bangs and married James T. Harmes on August 5, 1947 in Floydada, Texas.  He preceded her in death on June 28, 1998.  She owned and operated the Chuck Wagon Restaurant and was a member of Community Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Gale Gray of Denver, Colorado, Bobbie Kay Winter of Bryan, Texas, Melissa and Ronnie Mayo of Coleman; two sisters-in-law, Florence Ray and Mary Harmes, both of Coleman; two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Quinn of Coleman and Eddie Terry of Las Cruces, New Mexico; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and special friends including Tom and Dago Alexander, Chris Haigood and Sherry Haigood.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Anita Terry, in 1998.

Ninnie Boatright, 91

Ninnie Boatnight, 91, of Coleman, died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Coleman Healthcare Center.  Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dick Schultz officiating.  Burial followed at Coleman
Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Boatright was born September 6, 1909 in Melvin, Texas and was a daughter of Jess and Emma Deering Hale.  She grew up in Coleman County and attended school at Hardin.  In 1948 she moved to Coleman and had resided here since that time.  She was a homemaker and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Erlene Barker of Coleman; two sons, Don Boatright (and wife Peggy) of Coleman and Ted Boatright of Coleman; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Shanks of Big Spring and Dolly Sanders of Balmorhea and one brother, Otis Hale of Santa Anna.  Pallbearers were Larry Brown, Don Smith, Archie Slate, Gum Shanks, Bill Davis and William Earl Jones.

Mary Katherine Lovelady, 73

Mary Katherine ‘TuTu” Lovelady, age 73 of Austin passed away Thursday, March 22, 2001 after a struggle with cancer.  She was born Mary Katherine Morris on March 6, 1928.  She was a pilot, world traveler and a past Matron of Eastern Star Austin Chapter 304.  Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home with interment following in Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery.

Mary is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Captain Roy Ray Lovelady, Jr., USNR (Ret); daughters, Debra Nicklaus and husband, Mike and Cathy Lovelady and husband, John Jones; granddaughters, Felicia Carr, Laura Nicklaus, Sarah Nicklaus and Krista Nicklaus; grandson, Sean Carr; and sisters-in-law, Billie Jean Hensley and Ruth Lovelady Dodson of Coleman.

Johnny H. Gann, Jr., 68

Johnny H. Gann, Jr., 68, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at his home.  Services will be 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dewayne Andrus officating.  Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, directed by Winters Funeral Home.

Mr. Gann was born in Guion.  He served in the Texas National Guard, and married Wilma “Mickie” Hester in Abilene.  He worked at Dry Mfg. and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma “Mickie” Gann of San Angelo; three sons, J. Andy Gann of Corpus Christi, Ronnie A. Gann of Winters and Mike Bowers of Coleman, three daughters, Teresa Allen, LaQueta Shelburne and La Rita Wilder, all of San Angelo; two brothers, J. M. Brooks of Abilene and Charlie Brooks of Hillsboro; a sister, Nora Callaway of McKinney; 18 grand-children and five great-grandchildren.

Grace Gaines, 88

Grace Gaines, a former long-time Coleman resident, died Monday, March 26, 2001 in a Dallas hospital.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, March 29th, at Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Gary Boyd of Brownwood officiating.  Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

She was born in 1912 in Coleman and married Dennis Gaines in 1934 in Coleman.  He preceded her in death in 1996. Grace lived most of her life in Coleman before moving to Dallas in 1997. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Coleman.  Survivors include one son, Max Gaines and wife Nancy of Valley Ranch; grandchildren, Gina Bennett of Mesquite, Misty Krawsetski of Valley Ranch and Mat Gaines of Coleman; two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p. m. until service time Thursday at Walker Funeral Home. 


 
Monday Morning Accident Kills Coleman County Man

A two-vehicle and a trailer accident which occurred Monday morning at 7:45 a.m. approximately two miles south of Coleman, on what is commonly known as the Shield’s road, resulted in the death of a Coleman County man.  According to information released by Department of Public Safety Officer Pat Salas who worked the accident, Danny Guerrero, 38, of Coleman was south bound on Farm Road #2131, driving a 1991 Dodge Pickup while towing a welding trailer.  Approximately two miles south of Coleman, Guerrero drove onto a bridge and at that time, the trailer came loose from the pickup and traveled into the north lane where Davey Zirkle, 72, was north bound having just entered the bridge.  Zirkle was driving a 1988 two-door Subaru.  Zirkle was unable to avoid the trailer and collided with it.  Zirkle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Coleman's Justice of the Peace Nance Campbell.  Zirkle’s body had to be freed by using the Jaws of Life.  Guerrero was not injured in the accident.  Assisting Officer Salas at the scene was the Coleman County Sheriff’s Department, Coleman County Fire Department and the Coleman County Medical EMS.

Alvie William "Buddy" Dunn, 77

A service was Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel, Durant, Oklahoma, for Alvie William “Buddy” Dunn, age 77, of Cartwright, Oklahoma.  He passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.  The Rev. Les Peevyhouse officiated.  Interment was at Rosehill Cemetery in Calera with pallbearers Donny Toombs, Tim Dunn, Brandon Dunn, Mick Wright, Layne Haggard and Chris Copeland.  Family hour was Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.  Arrangements were under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service, Durant, Oklahoma.

Buddy was born March 28, 1924 at Coleman County Texas to John Nofphlet and Lula Mae (Threat) Dunn.  He attended school in Coleman County and later worked as a gas station attendant until the 1970’s. He married Nelda June Hart in August of 1944 at Durant. Mr. Dunn enjoyed fishing and country music and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 23, 1996, his parents, one sister Irene Whaley and three brothers Loy, Arlee and Melvie Dunn.  

Survivors Include his children Donald and Letha Dunn of Calera, Oklahoma, Wanda and Clinton Haggard of Norman, Oklahoma, Patsy and Randy Sharp of Calera, Oklahoma, Debbie and Mickey Wright of Calera, Oklahoma, Pam and Clyde Gudgel of Caddo, Oklahoma, John Jay and Sandra Dunn of Calera, Lisa Marshall of Sherman, Texas and Perry and Janet Dunn of Sherman, brothers Cecil I. Buck Boatright, 93

Buck Boatright, age 93, of Slaton and formerly of Gouldbusk, died March 28, 2001 in Slaton.  Funeral services were held Saturday, March 30, at England’s Chapel in Slaton.  Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Dublin.

Buck Boatright was born July 19, 1907 in Mooreville, Texas to Walter and Florence Talbert Boatright.  He married Voncyle Weeks in 1937 in Gouldbusk, Texas and she preceded him in death in 1979.  He married Edna Caldwell Fenly on September 19, 1987.  He was employed in the pipe division of the oil industry for 42 years, retiring from Texaco in 1970.

Survivors include his wife, Edna of Slaton, Texas; one son, Joe Boatright of the Victoria area; two brothers, Jack Boatright of Dublin and Howard Boatright of Odessa; three sisters, Mary Harris and Addie Mae Eckols, both of Dublin and Wanda Austin of Arlington; two grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive, including several from the local areas.

Angelita Loredo Gutierrez, 83

Funeral services for Angelita Loredo Gutierrez, 83, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Brownwood were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Davis-Morris Funeral rlome Chapel in Brownwood.  Interment followed at Greenleaf Cemetery.  She died Friday, March 30, 2001 at Kivel Care Center in Phoenix.

She was born May 30, 1917 in Coleman County to Martin and Senorina Mendoza Loredo.  She married Manuel Mindieta and later Mr. Guttierrez.  She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Jose Mindieta of Fort Worth and Philip Mindieta of Bowling Green, Kentucky; two sisters, Rafaela Salazar of Brownwood and Rosa Cardenas of Brownwood; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and a son, Juan Mindieta.

Travis Blair, 89

Travis Blair, age 89, of Brownwood and formerly of Coleman County, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R. J. Elkins officiating.  Burial will follow in Leaday Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Blair was born July 31, 1911 in Paint Rock, Texas, a son of Will Blair and Lizzie Harland Blair.  He grew up in Coleman County in the Mozelle area.  In 1936, he married Irene Loggins and she preceded him in death in 1990.  He lived in Coleman County where he was a stock farmer and moved to Brownwood in 1965.  He was a member of Avenue D Baptist Church in Brownwood.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Walters and Minnie Beth Brooks, both of Brownwood; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by six brothers and one sister and by a daughter, Irene Ingram in 1994.
