Funeral services for Jim Blair, 71, of Route 1, Coleman, were held Monday, July 3, at 2 p.m. in Stevens Memorial Chapel.  Rev. Paul Hubbard was officiating minister and burial was in the Leaday Cemetery under direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Mr. Blair died Saturday, July 1, 1978, at 2 p.m. in Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital.

Born July 24, 1906 in Concho County to the late Will and Elizabeth Hardin Blair, he had lived in Coleman County most of his life, coming here as a child.  He was married on November 21, 1929, in Gouldbusk to Miss Billie Lynch.  He was a stock farmer around the Loss Creek area until moving to the city of Coleman in 1963.  He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife of Coleman; one sister, Mrs. Ruby Elmore of Coleman; four brothers, Tence, Bud, Travis and Willie, all of Coleman; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Bonny Ray Whitfield, Ted Boatright, Herman Burrow, Nig Clark, Jimmy and Jerry Lynch.

Funeral services are being held in Walker Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. today (Tuesday) for Jesse Rinn, 66, who died at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 1978, at his residence, 211 N. Neches, Coleman.  Officiating minister is the Rev. Paul Hubbard of Emmanuel Baptist Church.  Interment will be in Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Mr. Rinn, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Otto Rinn, was born in Texas October 19, 1911.  A resident of Coleman for the past 14 years, and a member of the Baptist church, he was retired.

Surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. Don (Sue) Locke of Portland, Oregon; one son, Ed Rinn of McKinney; six grandchildren; six sisters, Mrs. Nola Mowell of Fort Worth, Mrs. Ruby Mueller of Stamford, Mrs. Millie Mitchke of Houston, Mrs. Iva Martin, Mrs. Dixie Conner, both of Garland, and Mrs. Bernita Hughes of Lubbock; and four brothers, Ervin Rinn of Plainview, Walter Rinn of Cleburne, K. B. Rinn of Olney, and Lester Rinn of Vernon.

Graveside rites were held Friday at 2 p.m. for Edgar Rudolph Wright, 75, of Carlsbad, New Mexico.  Mr. Wright died Tuesday, July 11 in Carlsbad, and services were held there at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, in West Funeral Home.  Rev. Paul Hubbard officiated at the graveside rites, and Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born January 27, 1903, in Madisonville, Texas, he was a retired cable tool driller.  On July 20, 1930, he married Vada Choate in Coleman.  He worked in Olney from 1930 to 1946, transferring to Elk City, Oklahoma and later to Carlsbad.  He was an employee of Shell Oil Company for 17 years.

Survivors are his wife of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Wanda) Maxwell of Carlsbad; one son, Charles Wright of Hereford; one sister, Mae Boatright of San Angelo; several nephews; 7 greatgrandchildren and 2 great great- grandchildren.

Benny Royce Locke, 30, 1966 graduate of Coleman High School, died in a Floydada Hospital at 5:00 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 1978.  Funeral services were held in Gouldbusk Methodist Church at 4:30 p.m. Friday with interment in Gouldbusk Cemetery under direction of Walker Funeral Home.  The Rev. James Smith of First United Methodist Church of Floydada officiated and the Rev. James Rogers of Trinity United Methodist Church assisted.  Jack McIntosh, Ronnie Wall, James Lovell, J. E. Waller, Bob Aldredge, all of Floydada, Todd Churchill of San Angelo, Ben Scott, Ronnie Baines, and Tommy Winfrey served as pallbearers.

Mr. Locke was born in Abilene, December 29, 1947, to Ruth Thompson Locke and the late Richard Locke; and he and Miss Mary Olsen were married in San Angelo July 9, 1968.  A graduate of Angelo State University, he was serving as Distributive Education teacher in Floydada High School.  He had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Coleman since April 1956.

Surviving him are his wife of Floydada; three sons, Shane, Benge and Layton of the home; his mother, Mrs. Ruth Locke of Coleman; and an uncle, Charlie Thompson of Coleman.

H. B. (Brady) Pepper, 80, of Coleman died at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 1978 in Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home Chapel, Paul Hubbard officiating.  Interment will be in Voss Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Born March 30, 1898 in Albertsville, Alabama, he was the son of Walker and Sara Pepper.  He came to Coleman County in 1911.  He was a retired mail carrier and a member of Voss Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife of Coleman; one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Crenshaw of Coleman; two nephews, W. A. Pepper of Dallas and Brady Pepper of Tulia; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Milton W. Whitt, 81, died at 2:55 p.m. Monday, July 17 at Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.  Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman, with interment in the Coleman City Cemetery.

A resident of Coleman County since 1902, Mr. Whitt was born January 4, 1897 in Dexter, Missouri.  He was a stock farmer.  On August 17, 1919 he married Hettie L. Rutherford in Coleman County.  He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War I.  He graduated from Indian Creek School in Coleman County.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Hettie Whitt of Coleman; a daughter, Mrs. James Elise West of Coleman; two sons, John W. Whitt of Corpus Christi and Eddie M. Whitt of Midlothian; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Wesson of Gatesville.  Survivors also include 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Arthur Wilkinson, Brad Wilkinson, James M. West, Jimmy H. West, Steve Brooks and Wayne Garner.  Honorary pallbearers are Lewayne Whitt, Ted Whitt, Patrick Whitt, Curtis Whitt, Scott Whitt and Vance Garner.

Ray Caldwell, 82, of Santa Anna, a former Rockwood resident, died Friday, July 21, 1978 at 9:30 a.m. in Ranger Park Hospital after a long illness.  Funeral services were Sunday, July 23, at 4 p.m. in Henderson Funeral Home Chapel of Santa Anna.  Officiating ministers were Rev. Gary Lawrence and Rev. Don Morrison.  Interment was in Rockwood Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Born October 21, 1895 in Bell County, he was the son of Lawrence and Georgia Box Caldwell.  He had been a resident of Coleman County since 1910; was a stock farmer and truck driver, retiring in 1967.  He attended Rockwood schools and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of Santa Anna; one daughter, Mrs. Janice Sebesta of Arlington; five sons, Charles Caldwell of Fairfield, California, Talmadge Caldwell, Ardis Caldwell, Denny Caldwell, all of Houston, and Dan Caldwell of Austin; one sister, Mrs. Chloe Epps of Houston; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Funeral services for Robert D. Walker, 16, of Santa Anna were held Monday, July 24, at 10 a.m. in the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel at Santa Anna.  Rev. Don Hagan, pastor of New Testament Holiness Tabernacle of Bangs, officiated.  Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery at Grosvenor.  Walker died Friday, July 21, 1978, at 4 p.m. in Duluth, Minnesota, following a motorcycle-truck collision.  Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna was in charge of arrangements.

Born October 12, 1961 in El Centro, California, he was the son of Mrs. Virginia Davies of Santa Anna and Robert Walker of Sacramento, California.  A member of the New Testament Holiness Tabernacle at Bangs, he attended Bangs schools through Junior High and had completed his junior year in Santa Anna High School at the time of his death.

Surviving are his parents; two sisters, Julie and Kathy Walker, both of Santa Anna; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson of Grosvenor; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lorene Young of Tulare, California; paternal great grandmother, Mrs. Pearl Morris of Tulare, California.

Henry M. Rockwell, 77, president of Rockwell Lumber Company with a chain in Texas and New Mexico, died at 6:20 p.m. Saturday in Houston.  Services were at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston.  Burial was in Houston.

He was executive officer of Rockwell Fund Inc. and Rockwell Brothers Endowment Inc.  His father, J. M. Rockwell, started the chain of lumber-yards in Cisco and Albany around 1900.  Born July 8, 1901, in Houston, Henry Rockwell moved to Coleman in 1924 and managed the Rockwell Brothers Lumberyard here for a number of years.  He moved to Houston in 1932 when his father died.  He became president of the lumberyard chain in the early 1960s.  He formed the Rockwell Foundation of Albany.  He was a patron of Cisco Junior College, Abilene Christian University, Hardin - Simmons University and McMurry College.  He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Houston.  He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity at Southwestern University and a 50-year member of the Coleman Masonic Lodge.  He was also a member of the Houston Country Club, the Rotary Club and the Town Club of Houston. He was recipient of an Honorary Doctor’s degree of Humanitarian studies at Southwestern and was an Honorary Convict of Texas Department of Corrections.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy in the Pacific.  He retired from the service as a captain.

Survivors include his cousin, Joe N. Green Jr. of Houston; a nephew Cecil C., Jr. of Fentress; and many nieces and nephews.

Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

James (Jim) Thomas Pinkard, 90, died Sunday, July 23, 1978, at 11:30 p.m. in Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services are today (Tuesday), July 25, at 2 p.m. in Stevens Memorial Chapel with burial to follow in Coleman City Cemetery under direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Rev. Leonard Radde and Paul Smith are officiating ministers.

Born July 18, 1888, in Covington, Texas, he was married on November 6, 1907 in Coleman County to Miss Myrtle May Brown, who died April 7, 1971.  He had lived in Coleman since 1937 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church here.  A retired oil field worker, he was self-employed for many years at the Coleman newspaper office in office machine repair.

A number of nieces and nephews survive.

Pallbearers will be Terrell Graves, Milton Autry, Oplin Saunders, Fred Paddleford, Charley Gordon and B. Maples.

Mrs. Roy (Eleanor) Tomlinson, 61, of Lowake, former Coleman County resident, died Monday, July 24, 1978 at 6:05 p.m. at St. John’s Hospital, San Angelo.  Funeral services are pending at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.  Burial will be in Silver Valley Cemetery.

Born December 19, 1916 in Winters, she was the daughter of Elbert and Viva Gillaspy Gipson.  She graduated from Coleman High School and attended Mary Hardin Baylor College and Sul Ross State Teachers College.  She married Roy Tomlinson on June 6, 1936 in Coleman, and they farmed in the Novice area.  For the past 4 years, the Tomlinsons have owned and operated Lowake Steak House.  She was a member of College Hills Baptist Church in San Angelo.

She is survived by her husband, Roy; three sons, Bill Tomlinson of San Angelo, Bob Tomlinson of Davidsonville, Virginia, and Phil Tomlinson of Lowake; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Simonton of Mineral Wells, and Mrs. Geraldine Wiles of Red Springs; two brothers, Walter Gipson of St. Julian’s, Malta, and Cotton Gipson of Farmington, New Mexico; and three grandchildren.

A Bangladesh woman visiting with her daughter in Santa Anna was killed in a car-pedestrain accident Thursday night, July 27.  Kushurn K. Beevri, 66, of Barisal, Bangladesh, was killed at 9:05 p.m. when she stepped into the path of a car at the intersection of Wallace Avenue and U. S. Highway 84, according to investigating trooper Harold Wampler.  The driver of the car, Kenneth Herring of Odessa, was not injured and has not been charged with any negligence, Wampler said.  Mrs. Beevri and her husband had been in Santa Anna visiting a daughter, Mrs. Melvin Justin.  Justice of the Peace Gale Brock of Santa Anna pronounced Mrs. Beevri dead at the scene.  Services are pending at Henderson Funeral Home in Santa Anna.

Matthew Dale Gentry, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gentry of Coleman, died at 9:55 a.m. Sunday, July 30, 1978 in Hendrick Medical Center.  Graveside rites are being held this morning (Tuesday, August 1) at 11 a.m. at Coleman City
Cemetery.  Rev. P. A. Lindley of the United Pentecostal Church will officiate.  Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The baby was born at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, July 30, to Jim and Barbara Sue Patterson Gentry.

Survivors include the parents; two sisters, Kimberly Sue and Rachel Dianne; one brother, Tracy Allen, all of the home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gentry of Coleman and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Brummett of Caruthersville, Missouri; great-grandparents, Will Gentry of Santa Anna and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Clark of Caruthersville, Missouri.

Funeral services for Walter Carl "Boob" McNutt, 76, longtime Coleman resident will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 1 (today) in Stevens Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Boyd offficiating.  Mr. McNutt died at 4:55 a.m. Monday, July 31, 1978, in Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

The son of Jay and Bernetta Mullis McNutt, he was born November 13, 1901 in Comanche County.  On November 25, 1923, he married Alberta Graham in Comanche County, and they moved to Coleman in 1929.  He operated Adams Oil Company Service Station for a few years, and then owned and operated McNutt Service Stations.  He retired in 1976.  He was a member of Woodmen of the World for 37 years, and a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Bertie, of Coleman; one son, Wayland McNutt of Friendswood, Texas; one sister, Leola Horton of Dallas; one brother, A. F. McNutt of Fort Worth; and two grandsons, William C. McNutt of Houston and James R. McNutt, a student at the University of Texas in Austin.

Pallbearers will be Hap Aston, Walter Wood, Roy Miller, Don Starnes, C. M. Kent and Ikey Wheeler.  Interment will be in Coleman City Cemetery.  Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
