Leamon Luther Wilder, 62, died Thursday morning, January 2, 1969, at 11:30 in Midland.  Funeral services were held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon in the First Baptist Church in Coleman with the pastor, Rev. Bill Merritt, officiating.  Interment was in Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Pallbearers were Jett Parker, Allison Hagler, Dennis Gaines, Oscar Ward, Lynn Riley and Sidney Wheat.

Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Wilder, he was born October 25, 1906 in Coleman and married Miss Nita Lee Miller in 1931 in Coleman.  A member of the First Baptist Church, he had resided in Coleman County most of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Leamon Wilder of Coleman; a daughter, Mrs. Beth Harvey of Washington, D.C.; a son, Jim Wilder of Midland; a brother, C. H. Wilder of Coleman; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Charlie D. Slate, 19, were held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Northside Church of Christ in Santa Anna with burial in Rocky Creek Cemetery, under direction of Paul A. Rix Funeral Home of Odessa.  Hank Anderson was officiatng minister.  Mr. Slate died Thursday night in Odessa after being overcome by carbon monoxide from an unvented heater.  His roommate, Ira Stanley Watson, 23, was hospitalized in critical condition but has now been released.

Born August 24, 1949 in Monahans, Mr. Slate moved, to Odessa one month ago from Santa Anna.  He was employed by Devonian Well Services in Odessa at the time of his death.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Omie Slate of Santa Anna; two sisters, Mrs. B. J. Garrett of Santa Anna and Mrs. Sandra Williams of Brownwood; his grandfather, Charlie Slate of Brownwood.  Coleman survivors include an aunt, Mrs. Ray Dempsey.

William Byrom “Shorty” Lunsford, 63, of 800 West 1st, Coleman died Thursday, January 2, 1969, at 3:15 a.m. in Scott and White Hospital in Temple.  Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 4:00 in Stevens Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bill Merritt, pastor of First Baptist Church of Coleman, officiating.  Pallbearers were Harold Kinney, F. W. Taylor Jr., Wade Hemphill, R. L. Turner, Edwin Pittard, and Ben Taylor.  Interment was in Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Born August 29, 1905 in Rogers, Arkansas he was the son of the late Charles W. and Nellie McMullin Lunsford. November 25, 1924 he married Inez Richardson in Coleman.  A resident of Coleman County sipce 1922, he was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Inez Lunsford of Coleman; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dora G. Jones, 82, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the Coleman Church of Christ with the minister, Bill Wiley, officiating.  Interment was at 10:00 Monday morning in Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo. 
Ross Russell, Alfred Williams, W. H. McDowell, A. B. Bailey, Elbert C. Ryan and Willard Holmans were pallbearers. 
Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Mrs. Jones, a resident of Coleman County since 1949, died Friday, January 3, 1969, at 5:09 p.m. in RoIling Hills Lodge.

Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Simons, she was born April 16, 1886, in Rosenthal, Texas and married James Luther Jones November 11, 1908 in Waco.  Mrs. Jones, a homemaker and seamstress, was a nember. of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Colleen Hayes of Coleman; four sons, Otho L. Jones of Austin, Oscar B. Jones and William L. (Bill) Jones, both of Abilene, and Herbert M. Jones of Fresno, California; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Box of Lubock and Mrs. Betty Simons of Waco; one brother, Jake Simons of Waco; 16 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren.

Wilbur A. Kirkpatrick, 75, of Coleman died Thursday afternoon, January 9, 1969, in the Big Spring Veterans Hospital.  Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Hosch Funeral Home Chapel in Santa Anna with Rev. V. D. Parnell, pastor of North Side Baptist Church officiating.  Interment was in the Santa Anna Cemetery.

Born October 19, 1893, in Idaho, Mr. Kirkpatrick married Maud Bowers in 1948 in Belton.  He was a veteran of World War I and World War II.

Survivors include his wife of Coleman; two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services for Henry M. Baxter, former resident of Coleman, were held in Garden Chapel, Tulsa, Oklahoma, with the Rev. N. Dietro as officiating minister.  He died January 9, 1969.

Mr. Baxter, son of the late James and Eva Baxter, was born in Sabine, Texas, June 18, 1895.  A former student in Coleman Schools, he was supervisor for Texaco Oil Company at Pryor, Oklahoma.  He was a Mason and a veteran of World War I.

Among his survivors are his wife of Pryor; two daughters, Mrs. Oris Puckett and Mrs. Lauraleen Price; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Susie Williams, Mrs. Edith Hollis, and Mrs. Tom Watson, all of Coleman; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Thomas Bascom Smith, 79, of Clyde were conducted at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at Eula Methodist Church with Rev. Wayland Bowden, pastor of Clyde Methodist Church, officiating.  Interment was in the Coleman City Cemetery.  Pallbearers were nephews and honorary pallbearers were members of the Kimbell Wholesale Grocery in Fort Worth.  Mr. Smith died Saturday morning, January 11, 1969, at 1:00 in Callahan County Hospital in Baird.

Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. T. E. Smith, he was born March 5, 1889, in Tellago, Alabama.  He and Grace Elizabeth Wilhoit were married March 15, 1947 in Coleman.  Mr. Smith, who attended Polytechnic College in Fort Worth and Abilene Business College, was employed in the grocery business.  He had been employed with Kimbell Wholesale Grocery for the past 31 years, retiring in 1962.  He was an active member of the Methodist church and was a Mason.  A resident of Clyde for the past two years, he had spent most of his life in Eula.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Liner of Lubbock; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Smith of Loraine and Mabrey Smith of Kermit; one sister, Mrs. Ina Womack of Colorado City; several nieces and nephews.  Local survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Hayden Hargett.

Jess Edwards, 82, died Sunday, January 12, 1969, at 2:00 p.m. in Rolling Hills Lodge.  Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in Stevens Memorial Chapel with Rev. W. O. Crews officiating.  Interment was in the Content Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Pallbearers were Robert Hambright, Jim Hambright, Hoyt Deaver, Mackey Adams, Douglas Hogue, Alan Murphee, Chuck Martin and David Crews.

Born February 7, 1889 in Runnels County, he was the son of the late M. S. “Tobe” and Liza Evans Edwards.  A resident of Coleman County for one year, he was a member of the Baptist Church.  He was retired.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Polly Edwards of Coleman; one daughter, Mrs. Cleo Cooper of Denair, California; three step-daughters, Mrs. W. O. Crews of San Angelo, Mrs. J. L. Williams of Brighton, Colorado, and Mrs. Paul Rodgers of Belton; three sons, Bill Edwards and Clyde Edwards, both of Watsonville, California and Vick Edwards of Denair, California; a sister, Mrs. Stella Carr of Lamesa; four stepsons, Carl Pearson of Novice, Jack Pearson of Big Spring, Johnny Pearson of Midland and A. C. Dunn Jr. of Lewisville; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services for A. Boyd Kidd, 62, Rt 2, Coleman, were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in Stevens Memorial Chapel with Rev. Paul Smith, pastor of the Concho Baptist Church, officiating.  Interment was in Coleman City Cemetery under direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Pallbearers were Austin Saunders, William Brown, Zelma Ray, Oliver Calk, Sonny (B. Mr. Kidd, a long-time resident of Colemnn County, died Tuesday, January 14, 1969, in San Angelo.  Son of the late James Simeon and Alice Evans Kidd, he was born June 30, 1900 in Randolph County, Alabama.  He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Fleeta Kidd of Coleman; one son, Alton L. Kidd of MidLand; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Hudson of Moran, Mrs. Murle Straach of Coleman, Mrs. Floyd Vaughn of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. Patrick Cates pf Fort Worth; four sisters, Mrs. B. U. Sikes of Brenham, Mrs. I. F. Evans of Odessa, Mrs. D. W. Bird of Tipton, Oklahoma, and Mrs. C. B. Williams of Midland; three brothers, H. A. Kidd of San Jose, California, J. C. Kidd of Bay City and T. T. Kidd of Palacios, and 20 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Stevens Memorial Chapel for Claude Abner Tyson, 60.  The Reverends Guy Perdue, Harry Rames and Milton Allen officiated and burial was in the Midway Cemetery.  Mr. Tyson, who had resided in Novice for 23 years, died Thursday morning, January 16, 1969, at 6:25 a.m. in Waco, Texas.  Masons serving as pallbearers were Foy Tomlinson, Jack Shields, John Sprinkles, Johnson Grimes Jr., Frank Bates, Vardie Dale, Johnson Grimes and Gene Sprinkles.

Born September 12, 1908 in Tokeen, Texas, he was the son of the late John and Era Porch Tyson.  He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Novice, the Masonic Lodge and was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include two sisters, Miss Annie Tyson of Novice and Mrs~ Cecil Ray of Lubbock; one brother, Alvin Tyson of Novice; one nephew, Doyle Tyson and one great nephew.

Funeral services for Mrs. John B. (Sybil) Howell, 68, longtime resident and music teacher, were held today, January 21, 1969 at 2:00 p.m. in Stevens Memorial Chapel with Rev. Guy Perdue officiating.  She died Sunday morning, January 19, 1969, in San Antonio, Texas.  Pallbearers were W. A. (Bill) Stephenson, Fred Paddleford, Dr. R. F. Kemper, C. D. Allen, Oplin Saunders, Foster Miller and Charles Hickman.  Interment was in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Howell, wife of the late John B. Howell, who preceded her in death August 2, 1966.  Daughter of the late J. D. and Lula Turner Simpson, she was born April 27, 1900 in Santa Anna.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Howell of Houston and Dan Howell of San Antonio; three sisters, Mrs. Kittye Adams of Santa Anna, Mrs. Clarence Webb of San Angelo and Mrs. H. A. Lucksinger of Austin; three brothers, Tom Simpson of Weslaco, James Simpson of Corpus Christi, and Eugene Simpson of McKinney; three granddaughters and one grandson.

Funeral services for Welby Fuller, 60, Talpa rancher, were held today, January 21, 1969, at 10:00 am, in Stevens Memorial Chapel with Rev. Newton officiating.  Interment was in Crews Cemetery.  Mr. Fuller was found dead at about noon Sunday, January 19, at his home at Pecan Springs Ranch.  Peace Justice Walter C. Holt has ruled self-inflicted gunshot wound as cause of death.  Pallbearers were Kenneth McWilliams, Hershell Wilson, Bill M. Kirk, Owen Bragg, Bill Sneed, Therm Osborne, Joe Allcorn, James Thompson, with Vernon Bragg as honorary pallbearer.

Born September 13, 1908 in Runnels County, he was the son of the late John and Kate Avant Fuller.  A member of the Baptist Church, he married Lema Breyard in December 19~3.  Mr. Fuller had been a rancher in Runnels and Coleman Counties all his life.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fuller of Route 2, Talpa; one son, Lowell Dean Fuller of San Marcos; six sisters, Mrs. Vera Simpson, Mrs. Ruby Matthews and Mrs. Jettie Gamble, all of Ballinger, Mrs. Myrtle O’Dell of San Angelo, Mrs. Rena Compton of Baytown, and Mrs. Marie Clayton of Houston; five brothers; Arthur B. Fuller, Harvey Alsman, J. C. Fuller, Jack Fuller, all of San Angelo, and C. Fuller of Crews.

John Louie Holder, 62, brother of Luther Holder of Coleman, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 1969 in McKnight Hospital at Carlsbad.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. today (Tuesday) in Elliott’s Chapel of Memories at Abilene, with 1. 0. Thomas of College Church of Christ of Abilene as officiating minister.  Interment was in an Abilene cemetery.

He was born in Ballinger December 10, 1906, and married at Indian Creek October 29, 1937, to Lettie Crowder.  A member of the Church of Christ, he bad lived in Taylor County four years.

Among his survivors are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Nell Macon of Abilene; four sons, Raymond Holder of Abilene, Bobby Holder of North Texas University, and John and Vernon Holder of Abilene; two brothers, Luther Holder of Coleman and Cecil Holder of Dallas; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services are pending for Ivan Edward Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward T. Brown, who died Sunday, January 19, in the Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital.  Holman’s Funeral Home of Brownwood, Texas, will be in charge of arrangements.

He was born January 21, 1968, in Coleman, Texas.

Survivors are the parents, six sisters, Ethilene Bell, Effie Bell, Gloria Donna Bell, Jorma Bell, Jasmine Bell, all of Coleman and Mrs. Melvin Brown, Jr. of Dallas; and one brother, Billie Bell of Coleman.

Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Rea, 85, were held in the First Christian Church in Coleman at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 1969, with the Rev. Claude Weingand, minister of the Church, officiating.  Interment was in Santa Anna Cemetery
under the direction of Hosch Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Mrs. Rea, who was borh October 27, 1883 at Indian Gap in Hamilton County, died in Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital at 7:30 p.m. Friday.  A longtime resident of Santa Anna, she moved to Coleman about eight months ago from Lubbock where she had lived for several years.  She was a member of First Christian Church of Lubbock.

Surviving her are her daughter, Mrs. Clara Gipson; Mr. Rea’s son, Harold A. Rea of Overland Park, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. C. L. Aven of Lamesa; three grandsons, W. F. Gipson Jr. of Fairbanks, Alaska; James Gipson of Houston, Bill Childers of Louisville, Kentucky, two grandsons and a granddaughter at Overland, Kansas; four great-grandchildren, and two nieces.

Funeral services were conducted in Stevens Memorial Chapel at 3:30 p.m. today (Tuesday) for Mrs. Lillie C. Flanagan, 90, who died in Brownwood Memorial Hospital Monday, January 20, 1969, at 10:45 a.m.  Burial was in the Coleman City Cemetery with the Rev. Edwin Perkins as officiating minister.  Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Flanagan daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Webster, was born in Hopkins County May 7, 1378, and married in December 1896, to William D. Flanagan, who passed away September 20, 1942.  A resident of Brownwood most of her life, she was a housewife and a member of the Nazarene Church.

Surviving her are five daughters, Mrs. Bera Tompkins and Mrs. Helen Schat of Brownwood, Mrs. Harvey O’Neal and Mrs. M. C. Davis of Odessa, and Mrs. Cullin Mullins of Bangs; two sons, Harrison and Russell Flanagan of Brownwood; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

James Archie Champion, 59, resident of the Novice community, died in M. D. Anderson Hospital at Houston Monday, January 20, 1969, at 9:20 a.m.  Funeral services are slated Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m. in Stevens Memorial Chapel with David Coffman as officiating minister.  Burial will be in Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Pallbearers will be Alvip Tyson, Randolph Saverance, Early Wellbourne, Ray Parker, Charlie Williams, and Brice Farmer.

Mr. Champion, son of the late Frank and Maggie Coffee Champion, was born near Cottonwood in Callahan County, June 15, 1909, and he and Miss Lillian Breeding were married at Baird January 29, 1938.  A farmer and a member of the Church of Christ, he had been a resident of Coleman County for the past 26 years.

His survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillian Champion of Novice; one daughter, Mrs. Gayle Agnew of Rockdale; one son, Tommie Weldon Champion of Novice; a granddaughter, Cinci Dawn Agnew of Roekdale.  Other survivors are four sisters, Mrs. Thelma Reevy, Mrs. Lucille Bush, Mrs. Bernice Breeding, all of Cross Plains, and Mrs. Catherine Rutledge of Waco; and one brother, Carl Champion of Cross Plains.

Funeral services are pending at Stevens Funeral Home for C. C. Ledford, who died Manday, January 20, in San Antonio.

Henry Stuart, 69, of Glen Cove Route, died at 2:55 p.m. Friday, January 31, in the Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital after a short illness.  Funeral services were conducted in Stevens Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. Monday, February 3, 1969, with the Rev. Ed Sluder of the Trinity Methodist Church as officiating minister.  Burial was in the Coleman City Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Dub Hunter, Waid Jackson, Earl (Dutch) Sanges, Bob Turner, Melvin Stacy and Cecil Day.

Mr. Stuart, born to Walter and Mattie Berry Stuart in Collins County, Texas, January 25, 1900, was married December 19, 1926, to Miss May Harrell.  A resident of Coleman County since 1939, he was a retired plumber, member of the Trinity Methodist Church, and a veteran of both World War I and II.

Survivors include his wife of Coleman; one dauühter, Mrs. Faye Wadsworth of Lubbock; three sons, Oby of Lubbock, Walter of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Tommy of Las Cruces, New Mexico; his mother, Mrs. W. R. Stuart of Coleman; one sister, Mrs. Maxine Bennett of Orange; three brothers, Coy of Lubbock, W. R. of Holt, Florida, and Jack of Chula Vista, California, and eleven grandchildren.
