Mother of Coleman Man Dies At Brady

Mrs. S. A. Abernathy of Brady, mother of M. E. Abernathy of Coleman, died Sunday morning at her home in Brady, and the funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p. m.  Another son, L. J. Abernathy resides at Aspermont, and a foster son, R. L. Akins, and a daughter, Mrs. Dora McCarty, live at Brady.

Last Rites for W. A. Strickland Are Held Tuesday

Last rites for W. A. Strickland, 70, of Coleman, were held Tuesday afternoon, January 27 at 2:30 at the Voss Baptist Church, Rev. Jack Skelton officiated.

Mr. Strickland was born November 26, 1882 in Grayson County.  He died Sunday, January 25 at 10:15 a.m.

Survivors include one son, William Strickland of LaFeria; two daughters; three brothers, Vernon Strickland, Coleman, T. L. Strickland of Voss, A. B. Strickland, Jr. of San Angelo; three sisters, Mrs. Ollie Wilkinson, Coleman, Mrs. Ruth Benton, Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Tom Moore, Coleman.

Imterment was in the Voss Cemetery with Wright's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Charlie Croft Died 10:30 This Morning

Charlie Croft, 43, native of Coleman died at 10:30 this morning at Santa Anna hospital, as a result of brain hemorrhage and stroke.  Funeral arrangements have not been completed.  The J. E. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include wife and three children, Alice 22, Wanda, 18 and Eddie, 4; mother Mrs. Ella Croft; four sisters, Mrs. Nettie McAlister, Mrs. Cora Taylor, Mrs. J. R. Brawner, all of Coleman, and Mrs. R. R. Knowles, of Woodward, Oklahoma; five brothers, Roy and Earl of Coleman, Jimmie of Paris, Wilis of Dallas, and Joe of Luling.

Last Rites for Charlie Croft Held Wednesday

Last rites for Charlie Croft, a native of Coleman, were held Wednesday, January 28 at the Bible Bapist Church with the Rev. Bob Simmons and the Rev. T. L. Slip officiating.

Mr. Croft died Tuesday, January 27 at 10:30 a. m. at the Santa Anna Hospital as a result of brain hemmorhage and stroke.  He was born January 20, 1909 in Coleman County, and at the time of this death he was 43 years old.

Survivors include his wife and three children, Alice, Wanda and Eddie; his mother, Mrs. Ella Croft; four sisters, Mrs. Nettie McAlister, Mrs. Cora Taylor, Mrs. J. R. Brawner, all of Coleman and Mrs. R. R. Knowles of Woodward, Oklahoma, five brothers, Roy and Earl of Coleman, Jimmie of Paris, Willie of Dallas and Joe of Luling.

Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery with J. E. Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

S. A. Millard Dies Saturday, Funeral Sunday

Samson Albert Millard, 76, of Santa Anna died Saturday, January 31 at 6 a. m. in the Santa Anna Hospital.  Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 1 at the Santa Anna Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry C. Wigger officiating.  Interment was in the Santa Anna Cemetery.

A retired laborer, Mr. Millard was born December 15, 1876 in Bell County and came to Coleman County 65 years ago.  he was a member of the Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were Jim Boggus, Monte Gurthrie, T. N. Evans, Bud Evans, Lester Newman and Emzy Brown.  Flower bearers were Mrs. Milton Walker, Mrs. Barney Lewellen, Mrs. Joe Matthews, Mrs. Nona Woodruff, Mrs. C. D. Bruce and Miss Elsie Lee Harper.  Honorary pallbearers were V. L. Grady, G. B. Smith, T. H. Upton, J. B. Harrington, C. K. Hunter, M. L. Guthrie, Sr. and Clinton Lowe.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Nell Shelly of Temple, a number of nieces and nephews.

J. E. Stevens Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

J. A. Vanderford Dies Saturday, Services Here

J. A. Vanderford of Corpus Christi, former Coleman resident, died Saturday, January 31 in Corpus Christi at the age of 82.  Final rites were conducted Monday afternoon, February 2 at the J. E. Stevens Chapel with Rev. J. D. F. Williams officiating.  Pallbearers were Walter Ford Gilliam, Glen Peavy, Charles Vanderford, Marvin Rich, Aubry Scarborough and Homer Vercher.  Interment was in the Coleman City cemetery with J. E. Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Vanderford was born may 10, 1870 in Corinth, Mississippi and came to Coleman County in 1904.  He was engaged in farming south of Coleman and in the Shield community until 1943 when he moved to Corpus Christi to make his home.  He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Josh Vanderford, Hubert Vanderford, both of Fort Worth, Lonnie Vanderford of San Angelo; four daughters, Mrs. W. L. Fisher of Roscoe, Mrs. Faye Gilliam of Waco, Mrs. E. L. Peavy of Corpus Christi and Miss Christel Vanderford, also of Corpus Christi;  11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
