William Jackson Robey, brother
of J. H. Robey (see John H.
Robey), was born June 9, 1849 in
Logan County, Kentucky. He married
Florence Bell Batsell, January 9, 1882 in
Simpson County, Kentucky. She was
the sister of J. W. Batsell (see Batsell
Family). They moved to Coleman
County in 1883, and acquired a ranch just
north of Coleman, which became the nucleus
of his later vast land properties, also
owning property in Ochiltree and Glasscock
Counties, and a fine home in Coleman,
built in 1900. He engaged for many
years extensively in the handling of
cattle, sheep and horses. He died
March 9, 1919 in Coleman, Florence (born
September 25, 1857 in Simpson County),
died July 23, 1950 in Galveston, both
buried at Coleman.
They had three
children, all born three miles north of
Coleman: Ellen Trunion, born February 19,
1888, married Thomas Dunbar Affleck,
January 17, 1911 in Coleman County.
He died November 17, 1966 in
Galveston. Susannah Victoria, born
February 18, 1892, married Berry Bowen,
January 5, 1916 in Coleman County.
He died November 6, 1928 in Waco (see F.
M. Bowen). George William, born
December 15, 1896, married Marie Taylor
Newsom, November 1, 1938 in Coleman County
(see James Frank Taylor). He passed
away November 15, 1983. He served as
Coleman County sheriff from September 1,
1937 to December 31, 1946; also serving on
the Coleman City Council for many years,
was a veteran of World War I, and a member
of the Methodist Church.
