| Our grandfather, George Patton, came to Coleman around 1905, was a
friend of the Ransbergers, and finally settled just south of Fisk.
His sons also farmed in the area for a long time. His daughters worked
toward a teachers’ certificate and both taught in rural schools.
Miss Belle Patton, the eldest, was a 3rd grade teacher in South Ward for
many years. I have a lot of pictures relating to her house and her
students. My mother, Lester, walked to the old Brown Ranch school
to get her education and then took a room with Miss Belle Patton in Coleman
to go to Coleman High School and graduate as valedictorian in 1914. |
