The Joseph Nealy Family

     Joseph Nealy was born in Indiana in the early 1800's, came to Texas with a wagon train as a scout.  He was of Indian descent.  He married and settled near Decatur, in Wise County.  After his wife's death he married (2) Cordelia Kelly.  They moved to Grapeland.  Joseph died in 1884. buried in Dailey Cemetery at Grapeland.  Cordelia married (2) Ratford Moorehead.  She died in 1888, buried in Milligan Cemetery in Grapeland.  Joseph and his first wife had four children, names and places of resident are not available.  He and Cordelia had two sons, John Wood and Phillip U. Nealy.

     John Wood, July 20, 1878 at Decatur, married and had five children. All made their homes in Houston County.  After his first wife died, he married Martha Lee Lewis, born April 23, 1900.  They had ten children, nine that lived to adulthood.  There were five sons: William; James; Omar Lee; Sherman Elton; and Robert Alton; and four daughters: Laura Mae; Linnie Marie; Wessie Lillian: and Dorothy.  John Nealy died September 23, 1969, buried Milligan Cemetery in Grapeland.  Phillip U., August 10, 1880 in Decatur, moved to Coleman where he farmed several places as a share farmer.  On April 25, 1907, he married Edna Eliza McQueen, born January 29, 1889 (see John Taylor McQueen).  They moved into Coleman after his retirement in 1950.  He died November 6, 1953 and Edna, July 5, 1971, both buried at Glen Cove.  They had two children who died in childhood; Mary Belle, March 17, 1915-June 25, 1918, and Vernon Doyle, January 2, 1926-December 17, 1930, both died of diphtheria and Vernon Doyle is buried at Glen Cove. They have seven surviving children. four sons and three daughters:

     (1) Edgar, born April 7, 1911, married Ora Jenn-ings, August 20, 1932 in Coleman. They have one daughter, Vivian. Edgar was a farmer and rancher at Valera until his retirement in 1982 and they moved into Coleman;

     (2) Joseph U.T.), July 30, 1918, married Etta Blakeney.  They live in Freeport.  He retired from Dow Chemical in 1980;

     (3) Olan, September 14, 1923, married (1) Mary Lou Cowden and had one daughter, Jennifer.  He lives in Wills Point with his second wife, Willie Thompson:

     (4) Phillip, April 5, 1932, married Vernell Blakeney and has three children: Tobey Dan, Branda and Donna.  Phillip graduated from Coleman High School in 1950, attended the University of Texas where he graduated with a degree in business.  He lives in Topeka, Kansas, and is employed by Bell Telephone Com-pany;

     (5) Beady, January 11, 1913, married Ralph Titsworth, July 10, 1930, in Coleman, the son of Sanders and Fannie (Loflin) Titsworth and a brother to Floyd (see John Taylor McQueen), Jessie (see Rae family) and Eunice (Mrs. Preston H.) Cude.  Beady and Ralph had two sons, Marvin and Larry.  Ralph worked fourteen years for Santa Fe Railroad before he started to work for the City of Coleman and worked there for 26 years before he retired.  Ralph died February 25, 1984, buried at Glen Cove.  Beady lives at Valera.

     (6) Clara, March 17, 1915, married Otis Clark in Coleman, had two daughters, Margaret and Jean. Clara lives in Jefferson;

     (7) Callie Lois, June 29, 1920, married J. C. (Jake) Campbell in Coleman. They had three children: Jack, Darrell and Nancy.  Callie graduated from Centennial High School in 1939, attended business school in Abilene.  She worked for Western Union Telegraph. In 1959, she started to work for a woolen textile manufacturer in Brownwood, working there until her retirement in 1982.  She
lives in Brownwood.
