Andrew Jackson
Nations, son of James M. and Hannah
(Prude) Nations, was born in Fayette
County, Tennessee, October 10, 1829.
His wife, Elizabeth Jane, daughter of
Andrew and Anna (Nations) Lockridge, was
born in Jefferson County, Alabama, October
22, 1830. They had seven children:
Robert Emmett; Samuel Wyatt; Thomas
Lemuel; Andrew Jetton, born August 13,
1837, Gonzales County; Phoebe Ida; James
Richard; and Sallie Maggie. All came
to Coleman County around 1870, except
Andrew Jetton, settling in the Camp
Colorado and Burkett areas. They
were also in Brown County.
Andrew Jetton married Sophronia Binns,
June 24, 1876, in Luling, and came to
Brown County between 1880
and 1881 and to Coleman County in
the mid 1880's. Sophronia
was the daughter of Dr. Soloman Edmund
Binns and Susan Adaline Barnett, born
August 25, 1857 in Luling. Sophronia's
mother, then a widow, and grandmother,
Mary Polly (Johnson) Barnett, wife of the
late Pleasant Leonard Barnett. came with
them. Dr. Bins and Mr. Barnett are buried
in the Live Oak Cemetery in Luling.
Andrew Jetton and Sophronia had five
children: Samuel Atwood, born 1878;
Zelma, April 3, 1880 (both in Luling);
Jetton (Jay), October 24, 1881; Ida Olla,
October 1, 1885; Lucy Maggie, born March
6, 1883, died March 11, 1884 (all born in
Brown County).
Samuel Atwood married Bertha Riddle. They
had: Mary Viva married Sam Harrison and
they have Mary Ray and Peggy; Mammie Ethel
married Bill Dawson; Lennie Zelma married
Arthur Kleiman; and Velma Ida who marred a
Mr. Austin.
Zelma married Robert Emmett Hughs, son of
Sidney Henderson and Mahalia (Harris)
Hughs (see children of James M. and
Elizabeth Harris). They bought their
license in Coleman County, but married in
Brown County. They had: Charlie Lola
who married Dee Donivan Austin.
Their children: Gerald
Alfred-never married. Margaret Louise
married Walter Frederick Carter and they
have: Margaret Elaine (married Richard
Litsey and have a son Richard, Jr.) and
Donivan Frederick, Jr. (married Cathy
Yorborough and they have Megan and Donivan
III); Robert Alexander (mar ried Bobby Joe
Wallace and they have Clifford J., Bart
and Mark Wavne): Lola Tuanita (married
Temple Houston Johnson, Jr., and they had
Temple Dean, Phillis Ann and Russell
Layne); Zelma Zoe married Earl Heddins and
they had Mary Carolvn. married first
Lester Travis Piluger and had a son,
Lester Bartlett. Married second
Luther Large; Ida Emmett, no issue.
Ida Olla
married Joseph D. Edington and their
children were: (1) Cleo Clyde married Ella
Thate (see Henry Thate) and
their children are: Lelia, who married
David R. Cathey and they had Patricia
Loraine (married Kenneth W. Stone) and
Keith (married Judy); Lavada Faye married
Thomas A. Young (see Andrew A.
Young). (2) Raymond (Hick) married
Wilda Clutz. Their children were: Wilda
Sue who married James I. Branch; Bobbie
Nell, born 1938 and died 1950; and Terry
Ann who married James Doyke McAdams. (3)
Loucile married (1) O. H. Holland and
their children were: Barbara
A. who married N.L. Long, Jr. and they had
Donald Charles; and Jo Ellen married James
Barr and they had Leslie Ann and Joe Lynn.
Loucile married (2) C. A. Barr.
(4) Burel Carl married Dorothy Johnson and
they had a son and a daughter.
Both
families of Nations, Susan A. Bins and
Mary Polly Barnett bought land in
Coleman and Brown Counties. Andrew
Jackson Nations died in Texas, December 7,
1893; Elizabeth J. died May 23,
1894, in Las Cruces, New Mexico: Andrew
Jetton died May 27, 1944 at Bangs; and Sophronia
died March 17, 1927, Brown County, buried
Smith Cemetery. On a ranch near Echo, land
once belonging to Andrew, Mary Polly is
buried, but the stone has been
removed. A son of Andrew Jackson
Nations, Samuel Wyatt is buried there
also.
