Henry Nathaniel Lawrence, a farmer, carpenter and rock mason, helped
build some of the stone structures in the 1930’s which are still in use
in Coleman. They include the replica building at City Park which
now houses a museum, the stone fence around Hufford Field and the stone
drainage facilities throughout the city. The son of Henry Nathaniel,
Sr., and Margaret (Blankenship) Lawrence, he was born in rural Wilcox County,
Alabama on March 6, 1883. He moved from Alabama as a young man and
settled in Central Texas.
He and Susan Annie White (born September 13, 1886 in Saspamco, Wilson
County) were married November 25, 1906 in Burnet, later moved from Burnet
County to Chilton. In 1919 he moved his family, which then included
five children, to Fisk. The children attended Brown Ranch School.
In 1933 they moved to Coleman. Mr. Lawrence died in Coleman in 1949.
Mrs. Lawrence remained a resident of Coleman until her death, which occurred
during a visit to Lovington, New Mexico, in December 1963. Their
children:
(1) William Henry (Bill), January 15, 1908 in Burnet County
married Prebble Dixon, daughter of R. L. and Martha L. (Camp) Dixon, on
November 17, 1932 (see R. L. Dixon). Prior to Bill’s retirement in
the late 1960’s, he was employed by George Ray Grocery; S. A. Boardman
Gulf Distributorship; Coleman Butane Gas Company and the U.S. Postal Service.
A member of the Church of Christ since 1928, he has also been active in
the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He is a 32nd Degree Scottish
Rite Mason, was Master of the Coleman Lodge in 1972-73 and District Deputy
in 1974. They have a son, James Edward, September 14, 1946 in Coleman,
married Janis Addle King of Coleman, February 12, 1965 (see Charles King).
They have three children: William Charles, Dan Edward and Margo Gail.
They live in Arlington.

in San Diego, married Ted Stewart of California.
(3) Claude Edward, December 23, 1912 in Falls County, married Bertie
Mae Dalton of San Angelo; retired and live in Duncan, Oklahoma.
(4) Durward Eugene, January 26, 1916 in Falls County, married Bernice
Creel of Coleman; retired and live in Pennsylvania.
(5) Susie Mae, March 9, 1918 in Falls County, married John Henry Ellis
Jr., a native of Santa Anna; retired and live in Ozark, Arkansas.
