Claude Franklin Langford and Opal Marie Wallace were married October
22, 1936, in Baird while living at Denton Valley, near Abilene. Claude’s
parents, Ben Franklin and Agnes (Roachel) Langford of Cisco, were raised
around Ranger, buried at Carbon. Claude’s brothers and sisters are

A. and Ella Mae (Childress) Wallace of Denton Valley, were raised in the
Clear Creek community near Bangs. They are buried in the Clear Creek
Cemetery. Opal’s brothers and sisters included Valen Lee, Velma,
Lorene, Willie Mae, Ruby, and Hubert.
After their wedding, they moved to Carbon, December 1936. While
living there Carl Henry (August 4, 1937) was born. In August 1939,
they moved to the Liberty community, on the W. E. Wallace farm. There
Claude worked as a farm hand for $20 a week. Hubert Wayne (August
10, 1941) and Robert Joe (October 3, 1943) were born there. Janice
Marie (December 2, 1950) was born while Claude was working there on the
Emzy Brown Place. Claude began to drive a school bus for the Santa
Anna Schools in 1946 and continued to drive for 31 years before retiring
in May 1977. They still live on the old Brown place and now own a
portion of the original land. Their children:
(1) Carl graduated from the Santa Anna Schools in May, 1955,
joined the Air Force, and was discharged in 1959. While in the Air
Force, he married Jean Bouchillon, July 8, 1956 (see Robert Newton Bouchillon).
He worked at the Santa Anna Tile Company before moving to Dallas, then
Plano where he began to work for Texas Instruments in 1964. Three
daughters:
(1a) Pamela Lynn (January 2, 1959 in Amarillo), married Loren
Zehr of Natural Bridge, New York, July 3, 1982.
(1b) Cynthia Suzanne (August 8, 1960 in Coleman); (1c) Donna Sue (November
7, 1964 in Dallas), married Al Garcia of Plano, December 6, 1980, and they
have two children: Adam and Neesa Dawn.
(2) Wayne, graduated from the Santa Anna Schools in May, 1959, attended
Howard Payne College, Brownwood, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in
1963; and his Master of Education Degree in 1971. Wayne began his
career as a Spanish teacher in 1963 at Gatesville, three years. He
married Elizabeth Ann Wright of Gatesville, November 17, 1965, the daughter
of Llewellyn and Maxine (Love) Wright of Gatesville. Wayne then taught
in the Greenwood Schools near Midland, then moved to Belton, where he taught
Spanish for thirteen years. Wayne moved back to Santa Anna, with
his family in 1981, where he is now employed in the Coleman Schools as
a Diagnostician for Special Education. They have two children: Jeannie
Marie (March 25, 1969) and Lawrence Wayne (April 20, 1973).
(3) Robert (Bobby), graduated from the Santa Anna Schools in May 1962,
attended Howard Payne College for two years and then moved to Dallas where
he attended an electronics school. He married Marsha Jo Smith of
Coleman, November 25, 1965, daughter of Marshal and Zelma (Renfro) Smith,
longtime Coleman County residents. They lived in Coleman for a short
time, then moved to Dallas where he began work at Texas Instruments in
July 1966. While working, he attended Southern Methodist University
and received his Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1978. He is now
a Mechanical Design Engineer at Texas Instruments. They have two
sons: George Brent (September 25, 1968) and Donald Allen (May 18, 1971),
both born in Dallas.
(4) Janice Marie, graduated from the Santa Anna Schools in May 1969,
married Rondoe Smith of Coleman, May 24, 1969, son of Jack and Elizabeth
(Keeney) Smith, longtime residents of Coleman. They have three children:
Shelley Marie (November 25, 1969), Jackie Duane (March 16, 1971), and Melonie
Diane (November 12, 1977), all born in Coleman. Janice has been employed
at the Coleman Post Office as a postal clerk since June 1979. Rondoe
is presently employed with Hefner Plastics at Lake Coleman.
We, the Langford family, would like to dedicate our family history to the
memory of Emzy and Gladys Brown. They became like parents and grandparents
to our family. Emzy continued his employment of Claude even though
there were many hard times when money was scarce and crops were bad.
He provided us with a home and saw to it that our needs were met through
the use of the farm products. Before his death he made provisions
for our family to become owners of the homestead, the farm equipment and
some of the surrounding land. Therefore, it is through the unselfish
generosity of Emzy Brown that our family continues to be a part of Coleman
County and the Santa Anna community.
