Rufus King was born in May of 1847 in Alabama. His parents were
also Alabama natives. Rufus fought for the south during the Civil
War, lying about his age so that he would be allowed to enlist. He
later moved to Arkansas, married, and had three children: a son, Rufus
Jr., born in June of 1881; and two daughters, Beulah and Fannie.
After his wife died, Rufus, Sr. moved to Coleman County, where he married
Nancy Ann Aramanda Arabella Susan Jane (Camp) Lindley. Nancy Ann,
born June 1868, was the mother of three children when she married Rufus
King. Rufus and Nancy had six children:
(1) Eva Beatrice, January 19, 1892 (see James Decatur Meek).
(2) Grover, born in April of 1893, married Nora Nixon of Valera. He
died in the 1970’s, buried at Imperial.
(3) Addie, born in January 1895, marnied J. N. Smith. They later
moved to Phoenix, Arizona, she is buried there.

1966, buried at Coleman.
(5) Ottie, born in September 1898 and married Herman Traylor.
