THE JOHN JOSEPH KINCAID FAMILY

Three Kincaid brothers came to Texas before 1890.  Jim settled in Tom Green County and Drew settled in Palo Pinto County and was an early day Texas Ranger.  They raised their families in those counties and no further information on them.  John Joseph, was born April 29, 1855 in Fannin County, Georgia, and settled in Coleman County.

Louisa Emaline Slate was born October 16, 1871 at Jobe Township, Oregon County, Missouri, and came to Texas about 1887.  Emaline and two younger brothers, Ben and Henry, also born there, rode the train to Abilene (end of line) and were met there by some of their family in a wagon and team who lived at old Atoka.  They were an older half brother, Enoch Lewis Slate, and two older half sisters, Polly (Slate) Murrill and Sarah E. (Slate) Moore.

John Joseph worked for a stage line that ran between Atoka and old Fort Concho.  John and Emaline were married June 26, 1890 in San Angelo.  (John J. died September 1, 1931, Louisa Emaline, March 23, 1947, both buried at Atoka.)  Emaline cooked for the men working on the stage line after her marriage.  Their first two children were born in San Angelo, the next three at Atoka and the two youngest at Glen Cove.  They are:

(1) Swan Burnett, June 10, 1891, married Addie Louella Mulanax, November 12, 1911 at Glen Cove (see Joseph Riley Mulanax).  Swan died November 24, 1969, Addie, January 11, 1961, both in Fairfield, California.  (They moved to Solano County in 1935.)  They had five children:
(1a) Zada B., September 26, 1912 south of Glen Cove, married April 18, 1933 at Talpa, John Bailey Laws, Jr. of Glen Cove (see John Bailey Laws).

(1b) Carl Eugene, April 18, 1914, four miles east of Glen Cove, married Chloris Inez May (see Felix Morgan May).  They have two sons, Dale and Ross.  Carl died in Fairfield, July 5, 1982.

(1c) Albert Orval, June 16, 1919 in Apache, Caddo County, Oklahoma, married Beatrice Elizabeth Pimentel of Fairfield, June 16, 1939, two children, Carole and Douglas.

(1d) Wilma Jean, December 24, 1927 at Crews, Runnels County, married Lewis Wasden in Reno, Nevada, December 26, 1942, three children, Marcia, Glen and Loren.

1e) Betty Jo, March 30, 1933 at Valera, married Carl Myles Timberman at Reno, Nevada, June 4, 1949, three sons, Robert, Ronald and John.

(2) Robert Seaborn, January 11, 1894 - January 30, 1975, buried at Atoka, married Grace Casey of Novice, June 1, 1926 (see John Caleb Casey).  He served in the Army during WW II.  They had thirteen children, all born at Novice:
(2a) Robert Frank, February 5, 1927.

(2b) Lydia Lois (Wisener), March 7, 1928.

(2c) Ralph Warren, September 3,1929.

(2d) Albert Sidney, February 16, 1931.

(2e) J. J., February 9, 1933 (all born at Glen Cove).

(2f) Laura Ruth (McDaniels), November 15, 1934.

(2g) Johnnie Ben, January 16, 1936 - March 3, 1936, buried at Atoka.

(2h) Pressley Thomas, March 28, 1938.

(2i) Elery Buster, May 9, 1940.

(2j) Cordell Archie, February 11, 1942.

(2k) Weldon Harlan, February 5, 1947.

(21) Gary Ray, July 6, 1948.

(2m) Leon Ronald, November 2, 1950.

(3) Benjamin Henry, April 16, 1896 - April 14, 1949, married (1st) Maggie Ward, August 4, 1904 at Glen Cove - February 23, 1929, both buried Glen Cove.  Two sons, Henry Leon, February 14, 1923, and James Ronald, September 24, 1924, both born at Glen Cove.  Henry married (2nd) Coriene Thomas at Kilgore and had two sons.

(4) James Roach, July 11, 1899 - April 22, 1947 at Suisan, California, married March 9, 1925, Maybelle Baines of Novice, born February 22, 1907.  Three sons, all born at Novice: James, May 26, 1926, Joseph, March 30, 1928 and Aubrey, January 4, 1930.

(5) Sarah Matilda, April 1, 1902, married December 16, 1923 at Talpa, Samuel Joseph Morrison, April 30, 1899 at Atoka - April 4, 1978 at Crews.  Five children:

(5a) Connie Matthew, October 24, 1924, married Lillie Faye Burson.

(5b) Ouita Jo, May 12, 1926, married L. C. Foster.

(5c) Allie Louise, September 26, 1928, married Everett Cecil.

(5d) Vesta Lavora, September 4, 1930, married Pantaleon Griffin Berger.

(5e) Freida Loveta, December 6, 1934, married Harold B. Campbell.

(6) Johnnie B., November 6, 1905, married December 20, 1925, James Cordell O’Neal, July 20, 1902 Lampasas County - November 29, 1968 at Novice, buried at Atoka.  One son, J. C., born January 23, 1929, married Leona Sansom.

(7) Wayland Warren, September 18, 1909, married December 21, 1933 at Glen Cove, Alma Jane Huey (see Green F. Givens).  One daughter, EmmaJo, born November 27, 1941, married Gilbert Ramirez.

Enoch Lewis Slate, March 29, 1853 in Missouri - 1886, buried Atoka, married July 26, 1883, Sarah Elizabeth Pendleton, March 27, 1868 - December 21, 1932.  Had twin daughters, born April 14, 1884, Ettie who married Emmitt Bishop, December 28, 1906 and Etter who died April 19, 1884.  Sarah Elizabeth then married George Kincaid, 1865 - 1952, both buried at Atoka.

Polly W. Slate, November 15, 1861 in Missouri - May 29, 1934, married James H. Murrill, May 17, 1844 - March 30, 1924, both buried Atoka, on October 21, 1880.  Six children:  William J. and Wilson R. (twins), September 1, 1882.  Wilson R. married Ethel Dyer. He died in 1955.  Ethel then married Griffin L. Parker, August 10, 1891 - May 13, 1969, in November, 1956 (see David A. Parker).  Ethel died March 27, 1984, all buried at Atoka; Mary E., July 16, 1884 - January 26, 1960; Susanah, January 23, 1886 - October 1, 1934; Ann S., August 9, 1887 - May 23, 1959; James H. S., March 3, 1890 - March 17, 1892.  Mary M. Childress, sister to James H. Murrill, died June 24, 1912 (see Hugh Martin Childress, Sr.).

Sarah E. Slate, July 1, 1865 in Missouri - December 15, 1932, married (1st) J. Frank Moore, December 19, 1860 - August 26, 1907, both buried at Atoka.  (J. Frank and a son, Oscar James, were killed by poison gas while cleaning a well.)  Sarah E. married (2nd) Andrew Futrell and moved to Glen Cove.  Sarah E. and J. Frank’s five children: (3a) Rosa Elizabeth, October 27, 1884, married Fawn Kincaid; (3b) Nancy Mariah, September 25, 1887, married Walk Cody, one son, Connie, who lived with his grandmother, Sarah Futrell, and attended Glen Cove school; (3c) Dorah Liddy Bell (Susie), April 14, 1890, married John Kincaid, brother to Fawn (sons of James [Jim] Kincaid and nephews to John Joseph Kincaid); (3d) Oscar James, February 26, 1893 - August 26, 1907, buried Atoka; (3e) Millie Ann, July 12, 1896 at old Atoka, married Joseph Hugh Elliott Mulanax, February 12, 1913 at Glen Cove (see Joseph Riley Mulanax).

Ben T. Slate, December 18, 1873 - August 24, 1898, buried Atoka, married Lola ? .  Two children: Bennet T., March 7, 1899 (April 2, 1899 on tombstone) - April 28, 1899, buried Atoka, and Winnie (born at Atoka, died September 10, 1979 at Sterling City), married a Hagler.  Lola is buried in Colorado.

Henry Franklin Slate, June 13, 1875 - May 18, 1938, married Aurora Ramirez, September 7, 1896 in Sonora, Old Mexico - September 17, 1962, both died in Douglas, Arizona. They had six children.
