George Anderson Jones was born in Kentucky, June 17,1868, to James
M. and Sara (Redman) Jones. He came to Texas in 1897, and on December
26, 1903, married Willie Francis Hickman, who was born in Kerr County,
April 17, 1882. They were married in Brownwood and lived in several
surrounding communities before settling in Coleman County. At the
time of her death in 1959, at the age of 77, they were living on Commercial
Street in Coleman. Mr. Jones passed away November 28, 1968, at the
age of 100 years and 5 months. The Jones were the parents of eight
children:
(1) Lester, born September 14, 1904 in Rockwood. In 1928 he
married (1) Sally Seals. They had one daughter, Juanell (McFall),
who now resides in Houston. After Sally’s death, October 30, 1948,
Lester married (2nd) Wilma Fenton in 1958. At the time of their marriage,
Wilma had two children, Arthur, now of San Angelo, and Helen, now of Kentucky.
Lester passed on in 1974, buried at Glen Cove.
(2) Eva, born in 1906 in Rockwood married Ira Hinds in Coleman and they
currently reside in the Loss Creek community, in the old Hind’s home (see
J. M. Hinds).
(3) Othel, born 1908 in Rockwood, married Inez Wood, and they lived
in Brady. Othel died in 1979, buried there. Their union resulted
in a son, Glen, now of San Angelo, and a daughter, Mary Probst, who continues
to live in the Brady area. They also had three babies that died at
birth or shortly after.
(4) Owen, born February 12, 1910 in San Saba, married Vera Weaver and
they had one daughter, Jeanette. Owen died in 1981, buried at Glen
Cove.
(5) Lillie, born in 1912 in Richland Springs, married Buddy Drake at
Waltrip, September 14, 1930. Buddy died in 1977, buried beside his
son Robert at Glen Cove. They had three sons: Robert died in 1936
at the age of 19 months; Billy George now makes his home in Coleman with
his son and daughter; and Cecil Duane, lives in Abilene and has one son.
(6) Addie, born in 1915 in Doole, married Jamnes Coffey. Most
of their time was spent in Fort Worth, before his retirement from the Railroad.
They now make their home in Granbury (see J. H. Coffey).
(7) Lucy Ann, born in 1918 in Southland, married (1st) Irving Stinson
in 1937 and had two children, Nelda, now living in Splendora, with her
husband and three children, and Joe, who now lives in Glen Cove (see George
Anson Stinson). Lucy was married (2nd) in 1951, E. W. Leavell of
Coleman. He was killed in an industrial accident five weeks after
their marriage. On June 10, 1953, Lucy married (3rd) L. P. “Whitt”
Whittington of Glen Cove, where they still make their home (see Whittington
- Hughes).
(8) Ruth, born in 1920 in Southland, married Roy Loge of Indiana, and
they now live in Fort Worth. Two sons, Bennie and Ronnie, and daughter,
Linda, also all live in the Fort Worth area.
