William M. Johnson and his family moved to Coleman from California
about 1875 by ox drawn covered wagon. His trade was carpenter.
There were two daughters in this family, Alice Nevada and Eunice.
It is not known if they had other children. At one time, William
M. made two different trips to Fort Worth to secure lumber for the first
hotel built in Coleman. It was a lean-to with a central dining room.
It had two sides and they lived in one side. He also built the coffin
for the first burial in the Coleman Cemetery.
Alice N. met Amos Samuel Davis and they were married December 25, 1877
in Coleman by C. E. Jones, Justice of the Peace. They reared four
boys and four girls. (1) Lottie Bell (Noyember 7, 1879 - March 20,
1960) married Eddie Sewell (see Jesse N. Sewell). (2) Mary Quincey
(March 27, l887 - June 14, 1956) married Marion E. Morris. (3) Sam
A. (January 3, 1889 - March 20, 1969) married Mattie Robertson, July 3,
1920. He served in World War I (1917 - 1918) in France. (4)
Winnie Laura (November 30, 1891 - February 4, 1972) married S. F. Tucker,
February 8, 1908. (5) Alice Luvinia (January 31, 1893 - February
29, 1976) married Jerry Taylor, December 25, 1911 (see Jerry Taylor).
(6) Frank M. (July 5, 1896 - August 17, 1974) married Audrey Farries, July
13, 1918. (7) John A. (August 16, 1900 - January 27, 1971).
(8) Walter T. (December 23, 1902 - November 11, 1967) married Nettie Wesson,
August 14, 1937. Alice N. Johnson Davis was born September 26, 1861
and died April 15, 1955. Amos S. Davis was born April 7, 1847 and
died December 16, 1920.
