William D. and Susan Antoinette “Nettie” (Romeo) James settled in Coleman
County in 1906, moving here from Delta County. By a first marriage,
William D. had Charles (see Charlie
Benton James) and Van, (see Samuel Sidney Cole); each had a large family.
Their mother, Lizzie (Tip) Higgins James, passed away and William and Nettie
had twelve children of their own, seven girls and five boys. Three
of the children passed away at an early age while the others were reared
in and near Trickham. Most of the children attended school at Trickham
and Crossroads. They were Lucy (see Bowden), Bessie (see Bowden),
Ben, Eugene, Eula, Jewell (see Robert Sherman Stearns), Della, Johnny,
and Mollie. Many people in the Trickham area, had the name James,
as Van, Charlie, Eugene, and Ben had raised their families there.
Later the older ones passed on or moved to other counties, but most of
those that have died were buried in Trickham. |
