| James Lee Ingram and wife, Dolly James, moved to Coleman County from
Concord in Brown County in 1923, after moving from Tennessee Colony in
Anderson County a few years before. They settled on a farm in the
Buffalo community in the northeast part of the county with their eight
children - Etha May (Mrs. Robert Jones of Bangs), born in 1904; Tressie
Zay (Mrs. Glen Foster, died 1953 in Grapevine), born 1906; Noma Adell (Mrs.
E. J. McCoy, died in 1982 Santa Anna), born 1908; Helen Louise (Mrs. Ted
Stephens, died 1974), born 1910; Haskell Bunion (Bun) (of San Angelo),
born 1914; James Conly (Teeney) (of Corpus Christi), born 1916; Jim Lacy
(of Bossier City, Louisiana), born 1918; and Jack Boone, born 1920 (died
1958, Coleman). Dolly died in 1925 and is buried in the Salem Cemetery
in Brown County. In 1928 Mr. Ingram married Lena May Green, lifetime
resident of the Buffalo community (see Willis S. Green). A baby girl,
Era Lee, was born in 1929. Mr. and Mrs. Ingram, the baby, and four
boys moved to the Trickham community south of Santa Anna in 1931 where
another daughter, Lena Imogene, was born in 1932. In 1935 the family
moved to Santa Anna, and in 1943 they moved to Coleman where Mr. Ingram
worked as a janitor at West Ward School and Mrs. Ingram worked in the lunchroom
for several years.
The children attended schools in Buffalo, Trickham, Santa Anna and Coleman.
All four sons served in the service during World War II. Bun was
in the Navy and Teeney, Jim and Jack served in the Army, at one time all
three were all stationed at Camp Bowie, Brownwood, at the same time.
In 1970 the old Coleman Hotel was being remodeled into the Hi-Rise apartments
and since all the children were married with families of their own, Mr.
and Mrs. Ingram decided to sell their house in Coleman and move to the
apartments. They were the first ones to move into the new apartment building.
Mr. Ingram died February 10, 1972; he was a member of the Baptist church
and is buried in the Coleman Cemetery. Mrs. Ingram, who is 86 years
of age, still lives at the Hi-Rise apartments and attends the First Baptist
Church, Coleman. (According to her tombstone
and the Social Security Death Index, Lena May Ingram was born Februay 1,
1897, died July 27, 1989, and was living at Cross Plains, Texas when she
died.)
