Daniel Evans Huggins, born April 27, 1856, married 1877 Sarah Elizabeth
Comb, born December 15, 1860. They lived in Grimes County near Bedias,
before moving to Coleman County near Santa Anna in 1906. Eight children
born: William Evans, Armittie, Thomas Lafette, Rachel, Arminta, Ganey,
Raymond Oscar, Johnnie Burl. Daniel E. died September 6, 1935, Sarah
E., June 6, 1951, both buried in Santa Anna. Their children and families
that have lived in Coleman County are:
(1) William Evans, born December 3, 1878 married (1st) Josie
Bell, one daughter, Lillie Mae. Josie Bell died, and W. Evans married
(2nd) Ella Hollman, a daughter, Bernice. Ella died in 1911.
Lillie and Bernice were reared by their grandparents in Coleman County.
Lillie, born 1903, married Johnnie Richardson, have six children, live
in Brown County. Bernice, September 19, 1908, married in 1927, Lawson
Battles, born 1908, lived in the Cleveland Community, before moving to
California. While living here two daughters were born. Margaret
Sue, born January 15, 1934, died June 1, 1936, buried in Cleveland.
Wanda Mae, November 8, 1928, married Charles Richter, have one son that
lives in California. Lawson and Bernice now live in Santa Anna.
(2) Thomas Lafette, born July 9, 1885 in Grimes County, moved to Coleman
County 1906, married September 27, 1910 Addie (McHorse) Townsley, born
July 31, 1885, a widow with one son, Cecil Townsley, who now lives in Hobbs,
New Mexico. Thomas and Addie lived and farmed in the Shields and
Santa Anna area. Thomas died December 30, 1957, Addie, September
11, 1966, both buried in Santa Anna. They had four children:
(2a) Lois Pauline, born August 15, 1911, married Jasper Robbins,
born 1908, lived in Santa Anna before moving to Midland. Jasper died
1960, Lois, January 2, 1972, both buried in Santa Anna. Two sons:
(a) Audrey Martin, August 13, 1930 in Santa Anna, graduated from Santa
Anna High School, now lives in Odessa and has one son, William Martin,
October 17, 1963 in Midland, graduated from Santa Anna High School, now
lives in Odessa. (b) Billy Ray, November 5, 1933 in Santa Anna, graduated
from Santa Anna High School moved to Midland, married 1955 Dorothy Johnson,
born 1937. Four children, Tony Ray, born 1956, Bradley Ross, 1959,
married to Carolyn Hillman, two children, Todd Randall, Tony Rochelle,
now live at Midland. Paula Renee, August 25, 1964, married Stephen
Luther Hanna, now live in Odessa. Bryan Randall, September 30, 1965,
lives in Midland, with his parents.
(2b) Mildred Inez, born June 16, 1913, married 1936 in Santa Anna, Guy
Cammack, born 1904, a cattle buyer, lived in Santa Anna. They had
no children. Guy died 1971, buried in Santa Anna.
(2c) Leta Faye (twin), born December 4, 1920 Shields, a graduate of
Mozelle High School, married August 8, 1939, Joe Mack Elliott, born December
11, 1918. They moved from Coleman County 1942. Two children:
(a) Sandra Jo, March 15, 1947 in San Angelo, married in 1965, Franklin
Capps in Brady. Four daughters: Angela Yvonne, twins Rhonda Jo and
Kimberly D., Jayne Lynn. The family now lives in Austin. (b)
Tommy Pat, June 25, 1949 in Santa Anna, married Janice Talbert, one son,
Patrick, now live in Houston.
(2d) Lee Ray (twin), born December 4, 1920 Shields, a graduate of Mozelle
School 1941, Air Force Veteran of WWII, spending three years in Europe.
Married September 27, 1946, Syble Phillips, born August 19, 1925, making
their home in Santa Anna (see Robert Phillips). Lee Ray was employed
in Coleman as an automotive parts manager for 22 years before going into
business in Santa Anna, owning and operating a Service Station for ten
years. Two sons: (a) Phillip Ray, August 23, 1950, graduated from
Santa Anna School in 1968, married April 1, 1972, Gwendolyn Sue Johnson
in Coleman (see Delma B. Johnson). Two children: Dana Michele, October
24, 1972, Adam Ray, December 14, 1979. They now live in Coleman.
(b) David Lee, November 11, 1955, graduated from Santa Anna School in 1974,
married September 3, 1977, Jimmie Gail Rutherford of Rockwood (see William
H. Rutherford). The marriage produced one child, a daughter, Manila
Amber, born March 10, 1978.
(3) Johnnie Burl, born May 23, 1889 in Grimes County, married Rubie McHorse.
They had two children. Rubie died September 24, 1915, Johnnie Burl,
October, 1915.
(3a) Amanda, born March 1, 1913 in Santa Anna, reared by her
grandparents, married July 24, 1932, John Calvin Perry, born July 25, 1899.
They lived and farmed in the Cleveland Community, now live in Santa Anna.
They had two sons, (a) James Wallace, February 5, 1936 in Santa Anna, married
June 4, 1955, Billie Joyce Woodard, born May 14, 1937 in Santa Anna.
Four children: Brenda Kaye, Ricky James, Leashia Fay, Lorrie Ann, who now
live in Santa Anna. (b) Robert Ray, September 2, 1940, married Dixie
Deal, born October 21, 1941 in Santa Anna. Three children, Gregory
Rolan, Rae Ann, Chad Allan, now live in Austin.
(3b) Johnnie Daniel, born August 21, 1915 Plainview Community, married
Ruby Robbins, four children were born in Coleman County - Betty Joe, Jimmie,
June, Linda, now live at Stratford.
(4) Ganey, born October 7, 1891 in Grimes County, married Maud Smith, lived
in Santa Anna, before moving to Baytown. Five children were born,
all living out of the county.
(5) Arminta, born September 20, 1892 in Grimes County, married 1910
Ray Bledso, born 1888, living and farming in Coleman County, had four children:
two children died as infants 1915 and 1923, Travis, born 1918, died 1937,
buried in Shields. A daughter, Peggy, married Clyde Powers, have
two daughters, Margaret and Gloria. Roy died October 26, 1974, Minta,
May 22, 1981, both buried in Shields.
(6) Raymond O., born 1901, a WWII Veteran, married Edna Author; one
child, Doris (see John Sims Gilmore). Raymond died 1956, buried in
Santa Anna.
