Born in Mart, Texas, January 23, 1908, H. E. Howard moved with his
family at an early age to Route 1, Kemp, where he grew up and went to school.
After attending Texas Tech, he graduated from the University of Texas Dental
School in Houston. In 1939, he married Jeannie Stennis in Pampa.
They moved to Slaton in 1940, where he practiced until going to Scott and
White in Temple to do a residency in Oral Surgery. On September 1,
1945, he moved to Coleman to practice, bringing his wife and two daughters:
Mary Nan, born March 9, 1942 in Slaton; and Janet, October 28, 1944 in
Temple. Two sons were born in Coleman: Daniel Stennis, December 9,
1947; and Joe Scott, February 4, 1950. All were members of the Presbyterian
Church. The family moved to Georgia in 1953, while Dr. Howard served
as Lt. Col. in the Army at Camp Gordon. When they returned to Coleman
in 1955 he resumed his practice. On September 1, 1966, Dr. Howard
began work as a dentist with the MHMR program, which took him to Abilene,
Austin and Mexia. Since his retirement, Tool, on Cedar Creek Lake
has been home.
Mary Nan graduated from Coleman High School in 1960 and from Trinity
University in San Antonio. While at Trinity she met and married David
Allen Johnson, January 30, 1964. In 1966, they adopted Davey (David
Allen, Jr.) born November 30, 1966. Dawn Marie was born in Baltimore,
Maryland, August 30, 1968, and Andrea Lyn, September 13, 1972 in Baltimore.
Their home is in Goldenrod, Florida, near Orlando.
Janet graduated from Coleman High School in 1963 and from Southwest
Texas State University in 1967, married Rolland John Bek, August 12, 1967.
For a time they lived in New Braunfels, where Delaine Christine was born
June 9, 1969, and Brennan John, September 1, 1970. Presently, they
live in Plainview.
Dan graduated from Coleman High School in 1966 and from the University
of Texas at Austin in 1970. On June 9, 1970 he married Clarese Walker.
In that same year he joined the Navy. Dee Ann was born January 13,
1975 in Norfolk, Virginia. Henry Nathaniel was born March 22, 1978,
in Waco.
Joe went thru the 10th grade in Coleman and finished Cooper High School
in Abilene in 1968. When his duty with the Navy was finished he entered
the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his BA. From
there he went to Michigan State University for his Master’s. Joe
has not yet married. His work in Augusta, Georgia, is with the Government. |
