George Oliver and Augusta (Hamilton) Herring moved to Coleman County
in 1905 from Hillsboro, settling in the Longview community. George
Oliver was born August 23, 1867, and Augusta (Gussie) October 6, 1867.
They had eight children; Ben, Rex (see G. W. Myers), Boyd, Ethelene, Draton,
Mark, Forest (Pete), and Imogene. Imogene was the only one born in
Coleman County, June 2, 1907. Ethelene (Herring) Stewart, Imogene,
and Mrs. Mark (Margaret) Herring reside in Santa Anna.
Ben, born July 19, 1893, married Bernice Casey in Coleman County, July
29, 1915, born April 21, 1894 in Coleman County (see William Joseph Casey).
Ben passed away, after a long illness, February 8, 1960, and Bernice, February
18, 1982, after residing at the Ranger Park Nursing Home in Santa Anna
for many years. They had 3 children all born in Coleman County:
(1) Casey Oliver, July 19, 1916, attended the Buffalo School
and married Evaline Imogene Cupps, May 19, 1934 in Santa Anna, daughter
of Elmer Roscoe and Pauline Loving (Baugh) Cupps (see Elmer Roscoe Cupps).
(la) Elizabeth Charlene, born April 14, 1937, graduated from
the Santa Anna School, married Jimmy Doyle Schulle in Brownwood, November
3, 1955, born November 5, 1931 in Coleman County to Phillip and Euna La
Rue (Atkins) Schulle. They had four children, all born in Coleman.
They lived in Coleman until the 1960’s when they moved to Odessa, where
all still live . Their children are: Rebecca Joan, April 1, 1957; Connie
Rene, July 12, 1948; James Craig, October 3, 1960; and Doyle Gene, August
20, 1964. Joan’s husband, James Lunsford, Jr., is the son of James
Lewis, Sr., and Maylene (Phillips) Lunsford. Maylene was born in
Coleman in 1942 to (Pat) Annelia and Scott Coker. Joan and James,
Jr., have one son: James Lewis III (Trey).
(lb) Kenneth Casey, October 2, 1939, graduated from Santa Anna High
School, married (1) Freddie Marie Geer of Bangs, December 2, 1957.
They lived in Santa Anna and Kenneth operated a dozer on the Santa Anna
Mountain mining the silica sand for the use of making the “Santana” tile.
They moved to Odessa in the 1960’s. They had four children: Kemarie
Kay, December 13, 1958, in Coleman; Johna Faye, April 22, 1960; Elizabeth
Gay, October 15, 1961; and Max Ray October 5, 1963. Kenneth married
(2) Arvella (Simpson) Ewing of Coleman, October 25, 1979, in Coleman, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Arvil Simpson of Coleman (see Manton Jamison). They
live near Trickham.
(lc) Dale Wayne, September 28, 1950, graduated from Santa Anna High
School, married Jeane Ellen Wheat of Coleman, January 1971 (see Wheat Family).
Two boys: Peter Lance, born August 11, 1971, and Jeffery Lynn, October
18, 1972.
(ld) Pamela June, January 4, 1953, graduated from Santa Anna High School,
married David Curry Morgan of Santa Anna, May 19, 1973 in the First Methodist
Church in Santa Anna, the son of Gustaveus and La Rue (Curry) Morgan, Jr.
of Santa Anna. Gustaveus Jr. is the son of Reverend and Mrs. G. A.
Morgan, who was the Minister at the First Methodist Church in Santa Anna
in the 1930’s. La Rue is the daughter of the late Cecil and Myrtle
(Burke) Curry, lifetime residents of the county. They have one son,
John David, September 6, 1974, and live in the Cecil Curry home, built
after 1905, in Santa Anna.
(2) Vernon Webb, September 24, 1919, attended Buffalo and Santa Anna Schools,
married (1) Coy Casey of Coleman County, two children: Jerry, lives in
Dallas, and Sandra lives in Austin. Vernon “Snow” married (2) Sylvia
Fiveash of Coleman County, three children: Lana Lucretia, February 5, 1950
- April 26, 1960; Lisa Lee, December 12, 1956, married Joseph Paul Whitworth
and lives in San Francisco, California. Lisa graduated from Santa
Anna High School and the School of Nursing in Denton; Lori Lanett, October
3, 1963, graduated from Santa Anna and is a student at the University of
Texas at Austin (see Enoch H. Fiveash).
(3) Glenda Jean, February 22, 1924, graduated from Santa Anna and married
Dany D. Bryan of Rockwood, August 4, 1944 in Santa Anna, the son of Josh
and Ethel (Shuford) Bryan, born October 20, 1920. He served in the
Navy during WWII. They had two sons: (3a) Michael Gene and wife,
Carol, have three children, live in Arlington. (3b) Ronald Dan and
wife, Pam, have two girls, live in Abilene. Dany passed away June
14, 1983 in Abilene, where Jean still resides.
