Samuel T. Hazle (Hazel) was born September 22, 1860, and married Simmie
B. Richardson, born July 5,
1870, on December 23, 1886 in Hart County, Kentucky. They had
five children: Annie Ethel, August 29, 1888; Bertha Lillian, November 17,
1890; Harvey Taylor, May 15, 1893; Lawrence I., June 8, 1897; and Carl
Richardson, November 20, 1899. They came to Texas around 1900, settling
first in the Sanco area in Coke County. Simmie B. died March 17,
1907, buried at Hylton.
Samuel T. and the children came to Coleman County in 1907-08 and settled
in the Talpa area. Samuel was a Baptist preacher, serving as a home missionary
for churches which had no regular pastor. He held revivals and married
many Coleman County residents. On April 20, 1913, he married Lillie
E. Hughes, in the county. Lillie E. died December 20, 1920 at Tolar,
buried there. Samuel T. died March 12, 1922, buried at Talpa.
The children and their families:
(1) Annie Ethel married Floyd Hollinger, May 29, 1910 at Talpa (see
Hollinger-Hamilton);
(2) Bertha Lillian married Willis L. Head, September 12, 1909 at Talpa.
They had three children: Lourine, Alvin and Myrl. Willis L. was a
barber in Talpa and farmed at Mud Creek. Bertha Lillian died in August,
1983, both are buried in Fort Worth.
(3) Harvey Taylor married Doris Doherty, December 11, 1921 in Woodsfield,
Ohio, in the home of her parents. No children. They are buried
in Houston.
(4) Lawrence I. married Iola ?, in Mobile, Alabama. Two children:
Billy and Madeline. Lawrence is buried in Citronelle, Alabama.
(5) Carl Richardson married last, Minnie Mae Bunting. They live
in Houston. Carl has a daughter, Marian, whose mother, Marian, died
at her birth.
