The Bivins Family

     Cornelius Allen Bivins (1850 - 1922) was born in Giles County, Tennessee, the son or Allen M. and Louiza (Doggett) Bivins, married Sarah Doggett (1856 - 1901), daughter of Miller and Iane Doggett, January 21, 1873.  C. A. and Sarah Bivins came from Lawrence County, Tennessee to Coleman County and purchased land in the Plainview Community, in 1899. having settled first in Navarro County, near Rice.  They were charter members of the First Christian Church ot Santa Anna.

     The children of C. A. and Sarah were (1) Franklin Ira (1874-1948) married Martha Cain, had Ira, Willie (Bridges), Arthur Taylor and Ruby Jewell (Watson); (2) Louisa J. (1876-7) married Solomon Smith, one child, Florence (Boone); (3) Annie (1879-1931) married Frank Yarbrough, had Myrtle, Lois and Melvin; (4) Martha (1882-1901) married John T. Mahaley, had May; (5) Paul
(1890-1956) married Dora Watson (see Jim and Katherine Watson) had Aletha (died in 1927 in a car accident): (6) Silas (1890) married (1) Edna ?, (2) ?, had Eugene, Myler (Mike) and Theodore; (7) Walter Richard (1886-1901); (8) Mannie 894-962 married Otha M. Heallen (see Heallen); (9) George R. (1900-1971) married (1) Katie Whiteside, (2) Lucy Lowry, had Jerry Wayne and Nelda Joyce (Walls).

     In 1901, when the typhoid fever epidemic hit, Martha Bivins) Mahaley and her infant daughter, May, died of the fever.  Sarah went to take care of them and also took the fever.  She and her son, Walter, died of the fever in 1901.

     C. A. Bivins then married Inez Williamson (1874-1944) December 26, 1901.  Their children: Coy (1902-1982) married Harold Fowler, they had Edna (Harvey), Peggy Nell, Albert Ray, Billie Frank, Ella (Heald); Odis (1908-1969) married Hallie Shamblin (see John Allen Shamblin), one son, Duane; Howard Golden (1912) married Ze Willa Box. three children: Howard Vernon, Golda Ann and Joe Lynn.

     C. A. Bivins died suddenly August 31, 1922.  The September 8, 1922, edition of The Santa Anna News stated: "C. A. Bivins slept out in the yard Wednesday night on a cot.  He got up Thursday morning, put on part of his clothes and started toward the house.  He fell dead instantlv of heart failure."  He is buried beside Sarah (Doggett) Bivins in Santa Anna.
