Hiram
Bingham was born June 28, 1856 while his
parents were crossing the Mississippi
River on a ferry boat between Louisiana
and Mississippi. He came to Texas
on the second train that ever entered
Fort Worth. On Christmas Day 1876,
he came to Trickham, where he met and
married Pelona Lingo McElwreath, born
November 30, 1851, on January 18, 1877,
the daughter of Martin and Sarah (Blair)
McElwreath. Martin was born
January 11, 1811 in Scotland, and Sarah,
April 17, 1831, in Georgia. They
moved from Georgia to Trickham about
1874. Martin's son, Joe, came to
Trickham in 1873. He traded a
broken-back mule to someone for 160
acres of land. He built a log home
and sent for his father and
family. The children of Hiram and
Pelona were: William (Dick) Green, July
7, 1878-1921; Beula, March 15, 1880 on
Grindstone Creek in Parker County;
Robert Lee, March 25, 1882-1970; Thomas
(Tom) Daniel, April 14, 1885-1972; and
Osborn, July 8, 1887-1904. In
1890, Pelona died of Typhoid Fever, and
Beula went to live with her grandmother,
Sarah. Hiram died soon after, and
Sarah was left with several
grandchildren to raise. She worked
at whatever she could to make a living
and studied medicine from her "doctor
books." She was soon in demand for
births and caring for the sick.
She answered calls for her mid-wife
services from as far away as Santa Anna,
most often riding horseback.
Beula married
(1) Alonzo (Lon) Money, October 7,
1896. They had one son, Autrey,
born July 7, 1897. Later, Lon and
his twin brother, (see James Thomas
Stacy) Lynn, were swimming in Mukewater
Creek when the water was low. They
soon developed Typhoid Fever and both
died, each leaving a young wife and
baby. Beula married (2) Joe
Kingston, November 18, 1900. He
died March 28, 1938. Autrey was
killed in an airplane crash in San
Angelo, November 30. 1932, buried at
Trickham. Beula lived most of her
life in Trickham, until, due to ill
health, she moved to the Bangs Rest
Home, November 30, 1962. She died
there April 10, 1970, buried in
Trickham. "Aunt Beula," as she was
called by her friends, never missed a
church service, and was deeply concerned
for the well-being of all who knew her.
