William Oscar "Dub" Barnett - Family Histories

     William Oscar "Dub", second child of Lonzo McMann and Melissa Elizabeth (Lawrence) Barnett, was born February 10, 1916 in Buffalo (see Lonzo M. Barnett). In 1942, he was in the 136 Infantry. He married third time to Wanda Faye Dixon, June 3, 1950 in Santa Anna. Wanda was the fifth child of John Hayes and Mona Lolia (Smith) Dixon (see John Annanias Smith). Wanda was born July 10, 1928, in Rockwood. They have lived all their married life in Coleman. During Dub's working years he had many different jobs. At time of marriage, he worked for Artie Barnett moving houses and doing carpentry work. He later worked as a road construction worker for about nine years. He managed Sam's Place for four years and was self employed until retirement age. He still farms and raises cattle. Wanda began working for Jinright Mfg. Co. at age 19, and worked for 34 years before she quit November 26, 1979, and started to work for Childrens Christian Day Care, where she is presently employed. Over the past 15 years, Dub and Wanda have babysat in their home at 103 Ripley Street where they have lived for 27 years. They are known to everyone as Maw and Paw Barnett. Today they have fifteen grandchildren and another one on the way.

     Dub's first wife was Thelma Smith, and second wife, Katherine Howard. Dub and Kathy had one daughter, Bonnie Marie, born September 6, 1947. Bonnie married (1) Clayton Doss, and they had two children, Rhonda and Robert; married (2) Walter Harris and resides in Corpus Christi.

     Children of Dub and Wanda Barnett are:

     (1) Danny Oscar, born January 29, 1951 in Coleman, attended Coleman Schools, and at age 20 began working for Bennie's Well Service, where he is presently employed. Prior to the 13 years Danny has worked for Bennie Watson, he worked on road construction with his dad. Danny married (2) Treva Ann Sartain, December 28, 1973, in Coleman. Treva is employed with Mundens Discount Center. They have three sons: Michael Lee, born May 9, 1970, adopted by Danny; Danny Jene, February 19, 1976, and Caleb Joshua, November 6, 1980. All three boys were born in Coleman. Danny married (1) Glenda Gilbreath, May 22, 1970 in Coleman, they had one daughter, Selina Rena, born December 14, 1971. Glenda and Selina live in Santa Anna.

     (2) Sharon Ann, January 21, 1952, Coleman, graduated from Coleman High School May 22, 1970, and married Leslie Gerald Laws May 22, 1970. Sharon is a housewife. Gerald, employed for the past five years with Sedco Inc., works as an electrician on an offshore drilling rig in Brazil. They have two children, Kimberly Joy, born May 15, 1972 in Nuremberg, Germany and Michael Chad, April 11, 1974 in Hurst. They live in Coleman.

     (3) Karen Kay, June 18, 1953, in Coleman, attended Coleman schools, married Glynn Dale Faries Jr., August 10, 1970, Coleman. She has worked part time at Bill's Dollar Store for the past five years. Dale played football in junior high and high school. He graduated May 22, 1970, from Coleman High School. He is a truck driver for Martin Brick; has driven a truck for 15 years. They have two children, Shawn Dale, born December 20, 1971, Coleman, and Tyson Daniel, May 23, 1975, Brownwood. They live at Coleman.

     (4) Joy Esteleen, November 23, 1956, Coleman, attended Coleman schools and graduated May, 1975. Joy married Joseph Anthony "Tony" Dela Rosa, October 19, 1975. Tony attended Coleman schools and played football in junior high and high school. He worked for Stempel Mig. Company for five years, 1975-1980, Joy worked there five years; Tony has been employed with Bandera Drilling for the past three years. They have two children: Tarran Danielle, March 24, 1978 and Landon Barnett, November 9, 1981, both born in Brownwood. They have lived all their lives in Coleman.

     (5) Dennis Glynn, January 16, 1959, in Coleman, attended Coleman schools and later joined the National Guard where he was honorably discharged after four years. Dennis married (1) Raylene Carnes, May 1979. He married (2) Mitzi Lea Watson, August 15, 1980 in Coleman. Mitzi graduated from Mozelle High School, March 14, 1982. They are both employed with Watson Doze Service, Inc. in Coleman. They have two children, Darc Denise, born June 10, 1982, and Derik Glen, February 22, 1984. They live at Coleman (see James Coleman Watson).

     (6) Douglas Roy, November 21, 1961, Coleman, attended Coleman schools and has done oil field work. He married Leah Mae Sartain October 5, 1982. She attended Coleman and Novice schools. They have one daughter, Brand Nacole, born April 12, 1983, Coleman. They now reside in Wynniewood, Oklahoma, where Doug works for Cordova Oil and Gas.

     (7) David Troy, April 12, 1966, is a Junior a Novice High School, living at home in Coleman.
