Claudie (Claud) Lee Barnett - Family Histories

     Claudie Lee Barnett was born to Lonzo and Bessie Barnett, October 11, 1912, in Santa Anna. (See Lonzo McMann Barnett). The family moved to Bend, Texas, in 1936, where he met Elda Emma Henniger while on leave from the cavalry. They were married July 4, 1939 and lived in Bend until 1941. They then moved to San Antonio, where he worked at Kelly Field as aircraft mechanic, and Elda as sheet metal rivet gunner. They moved back to Bend, then, at the end of 1944, to Coleman, where Claud worked for the Coleman Ice Company, and at the end of 1946, back to Bend. In June 1949, the family moved to Burkett, and June 1950, to Coleman, but Claud could not find work and once more moved to San Antonio. When his younger brother "Pete" was killed in an automobile accident, they moved back to Coleman, where Claud found work as a gas station attendent for J. Laird. In July 1954, the family moved to Hope, Arkansas in February 1955, to Monahans, until December 1955, then back to Coleman for good. He went to work driving a gas truck for Ralph Elkin and ran his own gas station and bait shop.

     Elda worked at many different jobs during her working years.She recently retired from Stempel Manufacturing Company, and now spends her day helping Claud in the garden. Claud worked for the Coleman Independent School District from 1964 to 1978, at which time, he retired. He was awarded The Top Cat Award in 1975 by the Coleman Bluecats. He is remembered by the young people of Coleman for the many times he drove the buses to and from the sports activities of the school. They still live in Coleman as well as seven of their children:

       (1) Ora Nell, born June 2, 1940, married Ira Lynn Hopper Sr., April 15, 1961 (see Hopper Family).

   (2) Heddy Elizabeth, July 23, 1942 in San Antonio, married 5th time to James Irwin, May 8, 1972, one son, James Wesley Jr., Heddy and her family live in Coleman. Heddy works at Harmons #12 in Coleman. She married (1) Robert Walker; (2) Troy Banks; (3) Clarence Allen; (4) V. V. Jones.

       (3) Roland Claud, July 27, 1944 in Bend, married Regenia Parks, August 27, 1966. They have five children: Recce Aaron, Roland Kay, Roger Claud, Raemma Mae, Roland Claud Jr., all still living at home in Coleman. Roland plaved football for the Coleman Bluecats in 1957, 1958 and 1959. He served in the army from 1959 to 1962, and works for Jesse Mills Roofing.

       (4) Claudia, July 18, 1947 in Bend, married Harold Glenn Kemp, October 21, 1963, and has three children, all living at home in Clyde; Terri Lynn, Annette Diane and Elizabeth Kay.

       (5) Richard Moody, September 29, 1948 in Bend, married Donna Gail Swartz November 2, 1968, and has two children; Richard Moody, Jr. and Serena Sue, still at home in Winters. Richard played football for Coleman all his Jr. High and High School years.

       (6) Randall Lee, January 23, 1950, in Burkett, played football for the Coleman Bluecats during his Junior High and High School years. He served in the army from 1969 to 1972 in Vietnam. He is now employed in Longview, but has residence in Coleman and a farm in Burkett.

       (7) Ray Dell, November 23, 1952 in Coleman, married Brenda Gail Schults, July 28, 1973, and has three children; Nathaniel Price, Chadrick Ray, and Cara Nicole. Ray works for the Coleman Postal Service.

       (8) Annie Roxie, December 19, 1954, in Arkansas, married Billy Don Brown, November 16, 1974, living in Coleman, they have two sons, William Edgar and Richard McMann. Billy works for the Coleman Coca Cola Company.

       (9) Ricky Neal, February 14, 1956 in Coleman, married Joanne Verzi November 24, 1979, and has one child, Rebeka Elizabeth. Ricky works for the Coleman Coca Cola Company.

       (10) Lillie Casey, born March 29, 1957 in Coleman, married Randall Eugene Lobstein June 15, 1974, and has two children, Brandy Sue and Randall Eugene, Jr., living in Abilene (see Henry Lobstein).

       (11) Rinn Lawrence, November 30, 1958, married Janey Verzi, December 10, 1978, and has two children, James Vincent and Heather Rene, living in Abilene.

       (12) Riley McMann, October 14, 1962, married Brenda Lou Griffin, June 12, 1982. He is an oil field worker in Coleman (see Archie Phillips).
