Sam and Hope Baker

     About 1913, Sam Baker and some of his brothers, Newt, Charlie and Homer, came to the Nowlin Ranch.  Charlie and Newt lived on the ranch a few years.  Charlie moved away and Newt moved to Coleman.  He married Ivy Peacock, and they had five children, (see Newton W. Baker):

     Sam H. was born March 3, 1890, at Burnet, died December 27, 1952, in a hunting accident, buried in Gouldbusk.  He married Hope Viola Croft (see Jasper Croft) November 14, 1914, in Coleman.  They had four children:

       (1) Marlin, born and died in August, 1917, buried in Gouldbusk.

       (2) Wilma Lois, born September 4, 1918.  Employed by civil service and in the beauty field.  Wilma was married (1) to Albert Petrone of New Jersey, and (2) to Hubert Harrell.  No children from either marriage.

       (3) Floyd Wilton (Sonny), born November 19, 1920. died in December 1973, buried in Gouldbusk.  Sonny was a farmer rancher-cowboy.  He was a surveyor for the Soil Bank.  He married Verda Fern McClain, and had two sons: Max Warren, born February 8, 1948, graduated from Abilene Christian University, married Tonya Hines, August 2, 1973.  Two children: Jasen Warren, and Tiffany Michele, live at Minneola.  James Michael "Mike." October 26, 1952, graduated from Abilene Christian University, married Carolyn Sosbee, has one daughter, Lana Jill, resides in Abilene.

     Until Sonny's death, he and Fern lived on the Nowlin Ranch, then Fern moved to Coleman and is employed by the Coleman Hospital.  She is the daughter of Emma D. McNealy and Stoddard McClain.  Stoddard passed away in December, 1952.  They also had two sons, Varrell of Arlington, and Kenneth of San Angelo both have children.

     (4) Imogene "Janie," July 5, 1924, married Odis "Hap' Fowler, March 20, 1942, the son of Butler Bailey and Jess Ola (Copeland) of Rockwood (see B. B. Fowler).  Hap was in the Army Air Force, and they now reside in Fort Worth.  They have three children:

       Gayla Jean, April 19, 1949, graduated from U.T. Arlington, and has a Masters from Texas A & M, married Dr. Dennis Dance. Two children: Jennifer Leigh and Travis Andrew.  They live in Little Rock.

       John David, June 10, 1952, graduated from the U.T. Arlington, married Judy Dunnagan, who has a son, Christopher, she and John have two children: Candice Isadora Happy and John Paul Ashley and live in Grand Prairie.

       Steven Craig, April 26, 1954, attended Tarrant County Jr. College.
