A. Preston Bailey
was born in Tarrant County, February 9,
1906, the son of Albert P. and Katherine
(Robinson) Bailey. When he was a small
child, he moved with his parents to West
Texas, living first in Menard where his
father established the first telephone
system. Later the family moved to
Ozona for a time and then to Eldorado where
Albert Bailey was a rancher. Prescon
attended school in Eldorado and graduated
from high school there. He then
attended Texas Christian University for a
short time, but left to join the U. S.
Maritime Service. After returning to
Eldorado, he married Annetta Tyson in Santa
Anna, July 23, 1929, the daughter of Dr.
Jason Tyson and Julia Lee (Baxter) Tyson,
who were early residents of Santa
Anna. She graduated from Santa Anna
High School in 1923 and attended Texas
Christian University where she received her
B. A. degree in 1927. She taught in
Eldorado High School for three years (see
Tyson). Preston and Annetta moved to
Santa Anna in 1937. During World War
II Preston served in the U. S. Maritime
Service where he attained the rank of
Lieutenant Commander. After the war,
he returned to Santa Anna and established
Bailey Machine Company, which he owned and
operated for thirty-five years. He
also owned Bailey Lumber Company. He
was a member of the Christian Church and
served on the city council. Mr. and
Mrs. Bailey were parents of two children -
Julia Ann, born in 1932, and Thomas Carl, in
1934. Mr. Bailey died April 23, 1980.
