Isaac Carrol
Atchley was born August 9, 1863 in Sevier
County, Tennessee, the son of John O. and
Melvina (Thomas) Atchley (see Robert
H. Atchley). Isaac married Lula Jane
Payne (born June 30, 1873 in Kentucky) on
April 30, 1899 at Garfield, Arkansas,
daughter of William and Icy Payne.
Isaac passed away in 1957 and Lula, in 1969,
both buried at Coleman. They had three
children:
(1) John
William, April 1, 1901 in Afton, Oklahoma,
is a farmer. He is a "'greeter"' for
the First Baptist Church, of which he is a
long time member.
(2) Isaac
Carroll, October 25, 1902, in Afton, January
14, 1944 in Dallas, buried there. He
married Jeanette Ross in 1935, and was a
Railway Postal Clerk. He attended
Hardin Simmons University and received his
degree from Texas Christian University in
Fort Worth. He was a Baptist.
(3) Lois
Marie, June 11, 1905 in Welweetha,
Oklahoma. She is a member of the First
Baptist Church and has been the secretary to
the Nursery Department and several
classes. Lois and John live at
Coleman.
The Isaac Atchleys
came to Coleman County in the fall of 1909,
he was a preacher, teacher, and
farmer. While in Oklahoma he was a
missionary preacher on an Indian
Reservation. Isaac also served several
community churches in Coleman County, and
taught school at Junction and Indian Creek
Communities. He was a graduate of
Drury College and attended the University of
Chicago. Lula was a housewife, mother,
and church worker.
