Robert Harrison
Atchley came to Coleman County in the early
1890's from Green County, Missouri. He
was born in 1874 in Seiver County, Tennessee
(see Isaac Carroll Atchley). In 1898
he married Flora Ethel, daughter of Franklin
P. and Nancy (McDonald) Stevens, born in
Cynthiana, Indiana. Flora Ethel died
in 1941, Robert Harrison in 1953; they are
buried in Coleman. They had five
children:
(1) Reta
Hazel (1899-1929), married Warren Corder and
they had three daughters: Mildred, Ethel
Mae, and Joyce.
(2) Aubrey
Carol (1901-1981), married Frankie Crook and
they had three sons: Russell, Challie, and
Wayne. Aubrey was a stockfarmer in the
Novice community. He was a well
respected friend and neighbor. He is
buried in the Coleman Cemetery.
(3) Robert
Harrison, Jr., (1909-1911) buried in
Coleman.
(4) Winfred
Oliver (1911- ) married Jane B. Pitts (see
John Pitts). They had two daughters:
Janet Carolyn and Nancy Elaine.
Winfred is retired from Union or Caifornia
Gasoline Plant at Andrews. He lives at
Lake Coleman.
(5) Mary
Leoline (Polly) (1914) married Lewis A.
Fowler and they had one daughter, Elizabeth
Ann. They had a construction company
at Corpus Christi and a stockfarm at
Pottsville. Lewis passed awav in 1982
and is buried at the Old Runnels Cemetery
near Ballinger.
Harrison and Ethel
Atchley, during the years, owned places in
the Indian Creek, White Chapel, and Novice
communities. They were active members
of the Baptist Church. Harrison served
on the school board at Novice for several
years.
