George Washington Anderson, born October 11, 1868, Hardeman County, Tennessee, came to Texas when he was twelve years old, with his parents and five brothers and one sister.  His parents, John Connally and Lucy Jane (Richardson) Anderson, settled their family in Franklin County.  George and his older brothers, Jim, 18; Mac, 16; and Jimmie, 14; helped their father to build a home and clear land for cultivation.  Even nine year old Bob and seven year old Dick did their share, as best they could.  They lived in Franklin County for many years.  George met Lizzie Gregory, born October 10, 1880, in Cameron (see John Garner Gregory).  They were married April 9, 1898 at Cameron, and lived in that area until 1905.

In 1905, George went with Lizzie's father to Coleman County where J. G. Gregory bought land near Shield.  George stayed and built a house for Lizzie's parents, cleared land and sent for his wife and children about 1906.  When Lizzie's parents came to live in Coleman County about 1907, George moved his family to a tenant farm nearby.  They farmed around that area for over ten years, until George had saved enough money to return to Franklin County.  In 1918, they bought a small farm there.  He and Lizzie were beset with ill health, and not being able to make a go of it, sold their farm and returned to Coleman County in the early 1920's.  About 1925, they moved to be tenant farmers on the G. F. Gaines place near Voss.  They lived there for quite a number of years until he had saved enough money to buy a farm of their own, in the Brown Ranch area, where he lived until he died in 1942.  Lizzie lived there with her son, Jesse, until she died in 1961.

Their children: Annie Hearn, November 25, 1899-October 24, 1968, buried in Brown Ranch; Ora Mae, February 6, 1901 (see Emmitt R. Marrs); William Esley, January 17, 1903-November 17, 1980, buried in Shields (see Albert P.
