Talpa from Bastrop County in 1908. He
worked for his uncle, Mr. Slayton. at a
cotton gin and years later became a gin
owner. He married Bernice Parker in
Talpa on October 6, 1912. Bernice was
born in 1894 at Glen Cove, daughter of J. M.
and Sarah Louise (Hipp) Parker (see
Parker-Hipp and Hipp Families). She
moved to the Talpa community with her family
when she was seven years of age. Babe
and Bernice had one child, Maxine, born in
Talpa on May 9, 1919. Frank (Babe) died in
1973.
Maxine married
Clifton B. Drinkard, horn August 16, 1917 in
Eden, son of Clarence and Ola
Drinkard. He attended Eden Public
Schools, Howard Payne and the University of
Texas. He retired from the U. S. Civil
Service in January, 1976. They lived
away from Coleman County for thirty-three
years. In 1974, Maxine and Clifford
bought the home of the J. T. Blair family on
West College Avenue and began to restore it
to its original beauty. They moved in
on January 6, 1976.
Cliff was given the
"Outstanding Citizen" award in Coleman for
1980. Both Drinkard and his wife give
much of their time to civic work and are
