The Dr. G. B. Beaumont Family

      Dr. Gabriel Bouthroyd Beaumont, son of William Henry and Susan Bell (Cook) Beaumont, was born September 20, 1845, in Clarksville, Tennessee.  He came with his parents to Texas in 1848.  G. B. Beaumont was a student at Soule University, Chappell Hill, Texas, when the first hostilities of the Civil War started.  He joined Terry's Texas Rangers Cavalry in 1861, was shot at the battle of Murfreesboro.  After the war, G. B. completed his medical studies at Tulane University, New Orleans in 1869.  He started his medical career in Harris County near Houston.  Later he went to Navasota, Grimes County, where he met and married Nancy Davis Duke, daughter of Matthew Jackson and Martha Edward Phillips Duke, on December 6, 1870.  Their eight children were:

     (1) Rebecca Gertrude, December 25, 1872-November 3, 1951 in Palestine.  She married Seth G. Gay of Huntsville and had two daughters: Salome Irene, born April 4, 1902, married Carlton Henry Long of Boston, June 25, 1918.  Their four children: Norma Lucille, Carlton Henry, Jr., William Nelson, and Melvin Gay. Evelyn Stella married C. S. Kersh December 29, 1928.  Had one daughter Mary Yvonne.

     (2) Gabriel Bouthroyd, Jr.

     (3) Salome Hortense, September 10, 1877, Navasota, married Thomas L. Stevens (see J. E. Stevens) January 16, 1901.  Reared a niece, Ruth Beaumont.

     (4) Gulielmus Alexander. D.D.S., September 21, 1880, married Eleanor Ward of Ballinger, 1912.  Children: Mary Eleanor and Stella.

     (5) Edgar Chetwyn, April 12, 1883 in Navasota, married Jimmie Clark, November, 1903  Practiced as a physician and surgeon many years in San Saba.  Had three children: Nonnie Duke, Daisy Elizabeth, Edgar Chetwyn, III.  Chetwyn died April 16, 1926, and was buried in Coleman.

     (6) Stella Juanita (see McCord).

     (7) Aubrey Duke, April 11, 1890, married Hester Humphries. Had three children: Aubrey Duke, Jr., Audry Bell, and Ruth Mildred.  He died August 19, 1923 in Coleman.

     (8) Roger Davis, stillborn.

     Dr. Beaumont brought his young family to Coleman in 1886.  He was the doctor for the Santa Fe Railway and a general practitioner until his death September 29, 1933.  Mrs. Beaumont died March 18, 1935 in Coleman.
