Templeton
William (Bud) Bartholomew was born
February 5, 1856 to William G. D. (Guy),
born September 24, 1822) and Rosa Ann
(Williams) Bartholomew, born May 22,
1823. Bud was a land owner, farmer,
and rancher in Grayson County before
coming to Coleman County to settle.
There are records of land purchases in
Coleman County, as well as his registered
brand. He married first, Victoria E.
Hackleman, November 26, 1876 in Grayson
County. She was born about 1854 in
Alabama, and her family owned land in
Grayson County. Bud was Precinct #1 County
Commissioner and had to witness the first
and only hanging in Coleman County.
He was wearing a large black hat and
tipped it down over his eyes to keep from
seeing the hanging. The children
from this marriage were:
(1) Guy Benson,
born January 8, 1878 and married Roxie
Lowe (see Robert Martin Lowe). Their
children were Lorenzo Ezell (Bill), Elgene
Casey, and Mildred. Elgene Casey
married Leota Pettus and they live in
Brownwood, where he has worked at Weakly
Watson for many years. Their
children are Gene Carroll and David Lowe.
Bill has an adopted daughter. Roxie
and Guy are buried in Greenleaf Cemetery
at Brownwood.
(2) Rosey W.,
born January 22, 1880, married Harvey E.
Miller September 11, 1898. Harvey
was a Baptist minister, born November 21,
1872. Their children were Isabel,
born September 7, 1899, married H. E.
Thurman, who died in 1983; and Raymond,
November 27, 1904 - December 24, 1906.

March 23, 1882, married Kenneth B. Story
(see Kenneth B. Story and Tracy
Porterfield Story).
(4) Maud E., born
August 7, 1884, married J. T. Elkins,
December 27, 1910.
Victoria E. died March 29, 1887.
Templeton William (Bud) married second,
Mrs. Florence Williamson, February 14,
1888 in Coleman County. Their children
were
(1) Bettie V.,
born November 21, 1888, married a
Langford, then a Williams.
(2) Bertha,
September 15, 1890, married Bert Stobaugh
and they had two children, Evelyn and
Wiley (see Petty-Stobaugh-Smith).
(3) Arch B., May
27, 1893. Bud died March 23, 1926 in
a field at the end of a row.
His horses were still in harness when he
was found.
