Dear Friends: The Coleman High School Class of '69 will gather the weekend
of September 11-13 for our 40th (!) reunion. We've got a lot of good visiting
and laughing and hugging to catch up on! If you need a motel, suggest you
contact the Best Western Coleman Inn sooner rather than later as our reunion
will occur during bird hunting season and the hunters get their reservations
in by June or so. Best Western is at 325-625-4176. Mention you're with the Class
of '69 reunion.
The plan is to keep this casual and, above all, fun. And the rules are that
no one is too fat, too bald or too wrinkled to use that as an excuse not to
attend. We are the only people who share our particular set of memories -- some
good, some great and some not so marvelous. But we were all influenced by the
place on the planet called Coleman, and I hope you all look forward to gathering
there once again.
Here's the schedule:
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 - The homecoming football game
(against Hawley) starts at 7:30 PM. Come to Hufford Field and get a
general admission ticket and then look for a big bunch of middle-aged people who
look vaguely familiar sitting together on the Coleman side. Becky Smith Watson
is the ring-leader of this event.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 - There will be a luncheon
for the women (more details to come later) at Sandra Smith Stith's home, 1400
West Hill Lane. The men, no doubt, can figure out a way to avoid starvation and,
presumably, find their way to the Country Club for some golf or a relative's
land for some bird hunting (translation is that the men are on their own). And
no doubt there will be some ad hoc events (Santa Anna actually has some
marvelous shops now and Coleman has great antique stores). We are hopeful that
we can get the old High School building opened up in the late afternoon for
people brave enough to go inside and explore some scenes of their youth (more
details to come later). Regardless, be at the old High School no later than
5:45 PM as we will have a class picture made standing on those same front
steps where we posed for so many group photos. The big event will begin at 7
PM at Paul Wheat's home, 600 Rio Grande. The price of admission is to bring
your own beverages (and cups/glasses/ice) and one dish. For those of you from
out of town who don't think you can manage a dish, yes you can! There's a Best
Fried Chicken in Coleman, Hidalgo's Mexican Restaurant, a deli at the grocery
store, Sara's Neighborhood restaurant which can fix dishes, so forth. Doesn't
matter whether you bring a meat, veggie, chips & dip, dessert or what. We'll
eat it! The gathering will end when it ends.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 - There will be a farewell
breakfast gathering for anyone interested at the "new" Hidalgo's Restaurant on
Highway 84 (the "new" loop around Coleman) beginning whenever people start
showing up. We'll have a separate room (this is the new Hidalgo's near the Best
Western, not the old Hidalgo's behind the old City light plant) so we can visit.
This will be very come-and-go or come-and-stay.
