and Fugitives from Justice, 1878

Home was originally owned by John Calvert's father, Burnet businessman and Civil War veteran, Major H. H. Calvert.

John Calvert was sitting on the front porch of his home, 16 Feb 1876, when he was shot and killed by W. P. Brown, who was listed on the "Fugitives from Justice, 1878"

The crime and Brown's description is described as:

"Wanted for murder of John Calvert. Crime committed Feb 16, 1876; indicted June 21, 1876; 28 years old, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, black crossed-eyes, awkward shape, weighs about 175 pounds."

Calvert's widow, Mary Jane Carruth Calvert, remarried about a year later to Burnet physician Dr. George Jackson McFarland.  He reportedly practiced medicine from this home.
