W. G. Crumpler  
 

A native of Daleville, Ala, where he was born September 11, 1860,
W. G. Crumpler came to Texas at about 25 years of age.
He was reared on an Alabama farm and received
his education in that state.

 On coming to Texas he located near Woodville, where he remained
twelve years. For a number of years he was engaged in the lumber
mill business near Pineland in Sabine county. He came to Henderson
county 8 years ago and has made Athens his home.

 Mr. Crumpler was married Nov. 25, 1880 to Miss Mollie S. McCarty.
They have reared 4 sons and 2 daughters, all of whom are married
and live in Texas. One son, Dr. W. E. Crumpler served in the World War
and was with the Medical Department over seas when the armistice was
declared. A son-in-law, J. S. Short, was also in the service during the war.
 A man of somewhat varied experience he taught school for a time in his
younger days and also did some farming. He has always been active in
his younger days and also did some farming. He has always been active
in the advancement of his home community where ever he has lived.
 He owns considerable property in and around Athens including a small
farm near town to which he gives much interested attention

 He is a large stockholder in several oil mill properties and is president
of the mill at Athens and of the one at Kaufman. He is a director in the
mill at Terrell and is a stockholder in a mill at Plainview, and was
president of the mill that burned at Jacksonville some months ago.

 Mr. Crumpler is a mason and is affiliated with the Shriners Temple
at Waco and the Knights Templar at Corsicana. He became a member
of the Missionary Baptist Church in the early life and for 44 years has
been a deacon in the church. Mr. Crumpler is a Democrat but has never
been active in politics. Though only a few years a resident of the county
he has easily taken his place as one of the outstanding, progressive
citizens of Athens and Henderson county.
