Robert L. Williford

Mr. R. L. Williford, president of Williford Lumber Company, is an example
of a self-made young man. He was born at Jackson, Miss., March 29,
1886 and came to Texas at the age of eleven and was first located on a
farm in Ellis county, where he spent his boyhood days. He attended the
country schools for a time and later lived in Fort Worth, where he also
took advantage of the opportunity to get a better education. Mr.
Williford came to Henderson county in 1902, but returned to Ft. Worth,
where he again attended school and where he became interested in the
lumber business, which has proved to be his vehicle to success. For
several years he worked for a lumber company of Ft. Worth, and was for
some time a salesman on the road. His road experience took him over
the greater part of Western Texas, and gave him a knowledge of the
lumber trade that he otherwise would not have gained. But tiring of that
unsettled way of life, Mr. Williford came to Athens in 1917 and bought
the yard he now operates here. Being energetic and possessing the
happy faculty of making friends and retaining that friendship, he has
made a success. Besides his yard here, he now operates yards at
Eustace, Murchison and Brownsboro, and enjoys a fine business at
each yard.

Mr. Williford was married in 1920 to Miss Margaret LaRue. They have
one son, R. L. Williford, Jr., age three.

Mr. Williford holds membership in the Masonic order and is a member of
the Baptist Church. He is a life-long Democrat.

In all matters of interest to Athens and Henderson county, Mr. Williford is
always found lending his support. He is truly a loyal citizen of the town
he calls home.
1930 census Robert L. and Margaret L. Williford children: Joe L. age 8, and
Robert Jr. age 3 9/12 living at 105 LaRue St.
