Rev. D. R. Cartlidge

Rev. D. R. Cartlidge, was born in Chickasha county Miss.,
Nov. 13 (according to census 1874) and came to Texas with his parents when ten years
old the family taking up residence in Navarro County, near
Kerens where Mr. Cartlidge graduated from the high school.

He is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and was
called to the ministry in 1905. He was chosen as pastor of the
LaRue and Malakoff Churches in this county, in which capacity
he has served during a period of fourteen years putting in the
full time with the exception of one year, without vacation.

He was united in marriage to Miss Annie L. Richard, Sept. 4th, 1894.
The have one girl and four boys, who have already taken their places
in the commercial life of the county. The family resides in Athens,
where they have built a very beautiful home.

His long and continued service with the two congregations which he
serves ministerially is abundant evidence that his efforts are appreciated
and that he receives the full respect and esteem of those among
whom he labors.

Besides his regular work with his pastorates, Bro. Cartlidge has
been active every year in conducting revival meetings and through
these has won many souls to Christ. He has been the instrument
through which many rural and urban churches have been built or
greatly improved besides which he has rendered the other services
to humanity that fall to the lot of the minister of the Gospel.

He has speeded his quota of happy couples along their matrimonial
way; has extended the hand of charity to the needy; given spiritual
comfort to the sick and ailing and has said the last sad rites over
the departed.

His labor has been on of love and devotion to the cause of the
Master and has been chosen in a field in which the pecuniary
reward has been necessarily small and its performance arduous;
but his cheerful response to the calls made upon him have
lightened the labor and the certainty of his reward in the great
hereafter is only the richer for its ultimate attainment.

Bro. Cartlidge measures up in full to his duties as a lay citizen
and can always be found in the ranks of those who are in the
lead in promoting wholesome, worthwhile advancement of the
interests of the county.
