M. F. Wood

Mr. M. F. Wood, the popular proprietor of the Palace Drug Co., is a native
Texan, having been born in Smith county Feb. 5, 1887, and was reared
on a farm. At the age of eight years he came with his parents to
Henderson county. He attended the schools of his community and at
the age of seventeen left the farm and started out for himself. He lived in
Dallas for a time and was connected with one of the first picture shows
ever installed in Dallas. For a few years while a young fellow, he worked
in different cities over the state, and finally came to Henderson county
to stay in 1910. He was engaged in business for a while in LaRue. He
conducted a general store. In 1915 he came to Athens and with the
exception of a year in the employ of the Cotton Belt Railway, has been a
resident of Athens ever since. Beginning in 1917 he was engaged in the
grocery business for a few years and in 1920 he entered the drug
business and is now proprietor of the Palace Drug Company.

In 1910 Mr. Wood was married to Miss Alice Nettles. He is a member of
the Masonic order and the Methodist Church.

During the late war, Mr. Wood was ready to answer the call to service.
He was registered but never called. He is one of he most progressive
young business men of Athens, being public spirited and a loyal town
booster. He enjoys a fine patronage, and it is justly deserved.

Politically Mr. Wood is a Democrat and is always found standing by his
party and endeavors to help elect men of ability and integrity to fill the
important office of county and state.
