Mrs. Lucy A. Royall

The subject of this sketch was the wife of John Royall. Both were born in Pittsylvania
county, Va., Mrs. Royall on August 17, 1814, and Mr. Royall April 26, 1803. Mrs.
Royall's maiden name was Walton. She was married to Mr. Royall Nov. 25, 1835. They
moved from Virginia to Polk county, Ga., in 1846. The left Georgia for Texas in
November 1853, and arrived at Athens the latter part of December, 1853. They settled
two miles east of Athens and resided there until their death. They had eight children,
five sons and three daughters, of whom are living four sons and one daughter.
William Royall, the oldest of the living, has a fine farm just one mile east of the city, and
within one mile of the old homestead. It is a common remark that he is the best man in
the county.

The surviving daughter, now Mrs. Neff, also lives in the eastern part of the city, near
her brother.
Two sons, W. R. (Tucker) and J. D. Royall, are prominent citizens of Palestine. The
former is a very wealthy man, his accumulations being the result of his industry and
good management.

J. P. Royall is the youngest living. he resides in Athens.
One of her daughters was the wife of Col. T. F. Murchison, whose children are among
the best people of our county and are among the wealthiest and most influential
people of the county.

Mrs. Royall died Aug. 16, 1896 and her husband Feb. 3, 1881. They have thirty-two
grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. When their lives are considered in all
the results, we can but say they were useful and honorable, and their influence
through their descendants is being felt now and will continue to be for many years
yet.
