J. E. Barfoot
J. E. Barefoot, one of the substantial business men of
the county was born in Newton county, Miss. Oct. 5, 1867.
He came with his parents to Texas when he was 12 years
of age. The family lived for a number of years in Bosque
county, where Mr. Barfoot grew to manhood and where
he attended school.
At the age of 20 years he went to Scurry county where he
spent a number of years as farmer-ranchman.
Mr. Barfoot was married to Miss Maude Brown of Hamilton county.
They have three daughters and one son. In 1902 Mr. Barfoot
came to Henderson county, settling at Murchison where he
engaged in the mercantile business, which he was conducted
continuously for the twenty-three years of his residence there.
He carries a large line of general merchandise and does an
extensive cash and general supplies business.
Mr. Barfoot is a supporter of the local churches and is a Mason.
He is a life-long democrat but is not more active in politics
than
the average wide-awake non office seeking citizen. Throughout
his business career he has had the interests of his home
community
at heart and has never missed an opportunity to forward those
interests.
The large patronage he has speaks much for his motto of a square
deal for every customer and the continuity of his business over
such
a long period marked by adversity as well as prosperity is
sufficient
evidence of his business ability. Of such men is built the solid
citizenship of any and all communities.
