Ben Madole

Ben Madole and wife, Athens, Texas.  The Madole are of Irish
extraction. The father was named Ben Madole also, and came
directly from Ireland, first coming to Canada but after a short time
came to the state of New York. The parents lived and reared a
large family and died in the state. They had ten children seven of
whom are yet living. Mr. Madole was a farmer and stock man and
succeeded well in his line.

The subject of our sketch was the seventh
son and was named Ben in honor of his father. He was born in
New York state March 12, 1852. His schooling was secured in the
short terms usually given in that country.
He grew up on the farm and learned to love the country and farm life.
After reaching manhood he met Miss Julia Hall who at once won
his heart and they were married Jan 16, 1872 in Pleasantville, Pa.

The father of Mrs. Madole was born in New York state,
but his father came from Ireland. Her mother was born in Penn.
but her father came from England. Six children have been born
unto Mr. and Mrs. Madole five are now living.

Mr. Madole went from New York to Penn. where he spent 11 years,
thence to South Dakota. Eight years ago they came to Texas and
cast their fortunes in the line of fruit growing. Mr. Madole has been
a farmer with exception of ten years all his life. These years were
spent in the oil regions of Penn. Mr. and Mrs. Madole have a most
comfortable country home now and the comforts of life and excellences
of the home are growing each year. Mr. Madole is devoted to his line
and is studying it with great diligence and taking every advantage to be
secured. The family read, they take the papers and keep well abreast
with matters general, especially in all industrial lines. Probably no better
illustration can be found to show what can be done on a fruit farm in
Henderson County in a few years than is seen in the advancement made
by Mr. Ben Madole.
