Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Cumbie

Henderson County Natives To Mark 50th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Cumbie, both natives of Henderson County, will observe their golden wedding anniversary Sunday with an open house from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Cumbie were married Jan 17, 1909, at the home of the Rev. M. Reeves in the Leagueville community. They spent the first years of their married life in the Black Jack community where he was engaged in farming. Cumbie served as Justice of the Peace and constable at Murchison and Brownsboro from 1913 until 1919.
They moved to Athens in 1931 and have lived here since then.
Cumbie was local distributor for the Dallas Morning News for nine years and for the Tyler Morning Telegraph for six years after moving to Athens. He is now bailiff in the district court here.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Cumbie are members of pioneer families. She is the former Miss Donnie Tindel, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John B. Tindle of Leagueville, and he is the son of the late mr. and Mrs. J. H. Cumbie of Black Jack.
They are charter members of the Central Baptist Church of Athens, organized more than 20 years ago.
They are parents of six children, all of whom plan to attend the reception. They are Miss Dorothy Cumbie of Athens, Mrs. Jack Richardson of the New York community, Mrs. Homer Harris and Mack Cumbie of Athens, Grady L. Cumbie of Rockdale, and Jerry W. Cumbie of Dallas. They also have nine grandchildren.One granddaughter, Mrs. Marlin Sanders and her husband of Dallas, will observe their first wedding anniversary by attending her grandparents' golden wedding observance.
