Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Mae Harris will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 8
at 11 a.m. at St. John Baptist Church in Chappell Hill. Burial will be in
the Carlis(le) Cemetery. She departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009 at
Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Visitations will be held today from 2-8
p.m. at the Lewis Funeral Home.
Ida was born June 29, 1926 to Lillian and Willie Turner Sr. in Chappell
Hill. Her friends and family called her "Honey and Mama Mae." She attended
school in Chappell Hill. She was employed at the Brenham Rest Home until
her retirement. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under
the leadership of Rev. A.B. Bennett, and was a member of the senior choir
at St John Church until her health failed her. She was a devoted mother
who enjoyed cooking and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, two sisters and
four brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Johnnie B. (Lela) Harris; one
daughter, Shirley (Charles) Green Sr.; two nieces which she raised as her
own, Nora (Eric) Hemphill Sr. and Rosie Turner; three sisters, Bernice
Punchard, Nellie (Booker T.) Washington and Ethel Bellville; two brothers,
Willie (Lillie) Turner Jr. and McKinley (Ruby) Turner; two sister-in-laws,
lola Turner and Matte Turner; 10 grandchildren, Brad, Catrina, Erica and
Courtney Harris, Brandon, Joshua, Roderick, and Charles Green Jr., Chris
(Harold) Howard, and Ken Rogers; 13 great-grandchildren and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Lewis Funeral Home, 4010 Hwy 105 East
