4. JACOB2 MYERS (J
OHANNES1) was born Bet. 1728 - 1730 in Westphalia, Palatin Provence, Germany, and died 1808 in Jackson CO GA. He married MARGARET ANN MARIA HEGER 07 Feb 1750/51 in Westphalia, Palatin Provence, Germany, daughter of HENRY HEINRICH and DOROTHY KAST. She was born 04 Oct 1732 in Roemisch-Katholische, Kirchborchen, Westfalen, GR, and died in GA.Notes for JACOB MYERS:
Jacob and his wife Anna came to New York and later Pennsylvania around 1759. Jacob served in the Revolutionary War with the 6th Battallion, Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania Militia. He later owned grist and paper mills in Lincoln Co. KY.
Jacob Myers, c.1728-1808 b. Palatine region Germany, died in Georgia. Entered N.Y. or PA.
Jacob appears to have come into Pennsylvania around 1763. We can trace Jacob Myers and his son Abraham from Pennsylvania to Virginia, then the Carolinas, where Jacob served in the Orangeburgh Militia during the Rev. War, on to Georgia. Jacob died in Jackson county, Ga. in 1808.
Abraham Myers, his son, b.1760, Philadelphia, Pa. married Sarah Roberson in Virginia. Abraham and Sarah entered land in Walker County, Ala. in 1830s. Abraham died about 1840 buried in Lindsey Cemetery, Walker Co., Al. Sarah b. c 1772, d. after 1840 buried in Lindsey Cem.
Information from a 3rd Myers researcher, Annie Myers Utick states this is Jacob Myers, she sent me much information on this family. Following is one story she told me, written by her cousin.
"I am going to start this family history with the year of 1730, the year that Robert Myers' great grandfather was born. Jacob Myers was born in Westphalia, Germany. He brought his family to the United States in 1763, settled in the colony of Maryland and later moved to Chester County, Pennsylvania. Jacob served in the Revolutionary War. While living in Chester County, George Washington and his staff stayed overnight at Jacob's house and Washington's soldiers camped on the farm. After they left, Jacob found out that the soldiers had stolen most of his turkeys and chickens. This didn't make Jacob too happy even though they were George's 'Boys'. Later, Jacob and his family moved to Pendleton County, Kentucky. (These stories have been passed down from generation to generation. I found this tidbit in my mother's notes.)"
Need information on Jacob Myers born c. 1730,Palatine area, Germany. Died c 1808, Jackson Co., Ga. Arrived Pennslvania before Rev. War. Served in Orangeburgh Militia, Col. John Fisher's Reg., Capt. Thomas Pledger's Co., South Carolina.
We have a Jacob Myers from the Palatine area (along with about 50 others) that was in Philadelphia around 1763. He had a son Abraham born in Pa. about that time. Family lore has another son, Isaac, being born there a couple of years later. Jacob and Abraham moved west via Virginia, the Carolina, and Jacob died in Jackson County, Ga. 1808. Abraham and his wife Sarah Roberson migrated on to Walker Co., Ala. around 1830 and died there around 1850. Where did Isaac migrate to?
??? {Came to Georgia in the 1st group of Salzenburgers on March 12, 1734 on the ship named Purrsburg under Captain Tobias Frye. He helped found the town of Ebenezervon on the Savannah River in Georgia. Also, he was commissioned Lt. on July 5, 1762 in the 5th Co., 1st Regiment, Savannah Division for the French and Indian War.}

OHN MYERS:Raised by his aunt and uncle, John and Elizabeth 'Lizzie' (Myers)
Headrick after his father died about 1800.
The Myers family of Cades Cove originated from John Myers and Jane Dunn,
who moved from Horse Creek, Greene County, TN., ca. 1820
Olga Jones Edwards and Izora Waters Frizzel, THE "CONNECTION" IN EAST TENNESSEE. Henry Myers is believed to be the brother of John Myers of Blount co., Tenn. Both are probably sons of John Miers who signed the "Petition by the Inhabitants of the State of Franklin to the State of North Carolina" in 1787. Both henry and his brother John were probably born in Sullivan County. John lived later in Wash. Co. then moved to Blount Co..
There is strong circumstantial evedence for the above assumptions. John Myers, of Blount co., told his children and grandchildren that when his father died he left his wife and three young orphans: John, Henry, and Betty. John said he was reared by his aunt, Lizzie Myers Headrick and her husband John Headrick (son of William Headrick, revolutionary soldier). John Myers lost track of his brother, henry and met him again by accident when during the war of 1812 he heard him answer roll call.
In 1871 Henry Myers aged 76 filed a pension application for his services in the War of 1812l. This indicates that he was born about 1795 while John Myers of Blount County was born in 1782. This is compatible with the conclusion that they were brothers. In his application, Henry says that he enlisted in Blountville, Sullivan Co., East Tennessee in Oct. 1813. He was age 17 at this time and Sullivan was apparently the county of his birth.
William Headrick, father of John Headrick (who reared John Myers of Blount Co.), filed an application on March 6, 1835 for a pension due him for his services in the Revolutionary War. Wm. Headrick said that right after the Revolution he left Lancaster Co., Pa., and moved to Sullivan Co., Tnee., where he lived for 19 years. In 1802 he moved to Green Co. and lived there until about 1821 when he moved to Sevier Co., Tenn.
John Myers (of Blount Co.) always said he grew up on Horse Creek in Greene Co., Tenn. If the Headrick family took him to raise in 1800 he would have been 8 years of age and had plenty of time to grow up on Horse Creek as a member of his Aunt Lizzie Myers Headrick's home. Lizzie had married John Headrick about 1800 and they moved from Sulliivan Co. to Greene with John's father William Headrick. The father of John Myers (of Blount) evidently died about 1800 and John went to live with his newly married aunt. Henry Myers either remained in Sullivan Co. with his mother or returned Pa. with her only to come back to Tenn. prior to 1813, or he lived with relatives in Sullivan Co. until he joined the army.
There wre not many inhabitants in this section during the lat 1700's and early 1800's. Amoung them we find only the one Headrick family and the two Myers families which have been mentioned.
Henry Myers made applications for pension due to his services in the War of 1812 under the Act of Congress passed in Feb. 1871. At that time he was living in Ash Grove, Green Co., Missouri. He appeared before a Justice of the Pease on March 16 1871 and swore that he enlisted in 1813, in Sullivan Co., Tenn. in the company commanded by Capt. Keys in Col. Lillars's Regiment Gten. Cock's Brigade. He was discharged in Sullivan Co. in Jan. 1814. He re-enlisted the same month and was discharged the follwoing August in Rhea Co. by Lieut. Jamison. He had served as a Pvt. in Col. Ellis Regt. under the company commander Capt. Everett. He was engaged in the battle of "Horse Shoe."
Other data in his pension file shows that Henry Myers married Agnes Ragan on Feb. 6, 1816 in Washington, Tenn., Rhea Co. He lived from 1850 in Franklin Co. Tenn. and as alread states was living in 1871 in Greene Co. Mo.
From Historic Greene County, Tennessee & It's People: 1783-1992:
The history of the Myers Family began with Aunt Lizzie Headrick. Before her marriage to William Headrick, she had been Elizabeth Myers. Shortly after her marriage, her Brother, (name unknown) died and she took his son. John Myers, to raise. John remembered living with his aunt and uncle on Horse Creek in Greene County, Tennessee. The Headrick, Myers, and Dunn families moved as a group to Blount County about 1821. The Headricks and Myers were of German extraction. Aunt Lizzie Headrick talked with a strong accent and she read aloud from her "Dutch" Bible to the children. It is still preserved by her descendants. (Did not indicate by which descendants)
John Myers recorded in his bible that he was born October 26, 1792. In Greene County, he married Jane Dunn, daughter of Daniel Dunn and Rhoda. Jane was born October 20, 1792. Her birth date is recorded in her father's bible, her husband's bible and on her tombstone in the Myers Cemetery in Townsend, Tennessee. John and Jane Myers had ten children and they all lived to marry. As they were born their births were recorded in the family bible. Three sons were born in Greene County.

8. ABRAHAM3 MYERS (JACOB2, J
OHANNES1) was born 1760 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia CO, PA, and died Abt. 1840 in Walker CO, AL. He married SARAH ROBERSON Abt. 1783 in maybe VA, daughter of HENRY ROBERSON. She was born 1767 in VA, and died Abt. 1855 in Walker CO, AL.Notes for ABRAHAM MYERS:
Jacob appears to have come into Pennsylvania around 1763. We can trace Jacob Myers and his son Abraham from Pennsylvania to Virginia, then the Carolinas, where Jacob served in the Orangeburgh Militia during the Rev. War, on to Georgia. Jacob died in Jackson county, Ga. in 1808.
Around 1840, Abraham and his family migrated to Walker County, Al. where he bought or homesteaded government land.
Per John H. Myers:
"Abraham Myers, his wife, and most of his children and grandchildren came from Georgia to Alabama about 1825. They settled in the eastern part of Walker County. He settled on land between the Sipsey and the Mulberry Rivers, not far from the old Gravlee place. It is said that David Gravlee, the father or grandfather of Jack Gravlee, was the first white man that visited Abraham Myers after he arrived in Alabama. He filed on a piece of governmanet land that is now a part of the J.T. Parker homeplace. He made final proof on this land about 1840 and was given a government patent signed by Martin Van Buren who was President of the United States at that time. This patent describes the land as follows: the N.W. 1/4 of Section 32 in Township 13, Range 5 west.
Abraham Myers died about the time he made final proof on this piece of land. It is not known whether his wife died before or after he did, but it is known that there was only a short time between their deaths. They were buried in a small cemetary on the piece of land mentioned. This cemetery is about one-fourth of a mile west of the J.T. Parker home and about the same distance east of the Sipsey River. There are no markers at their graves."
Abraham went to Virginia as a young man, then into South Carolina before returning to Georgia in the late 1790's or early 1800's. He was in Jackson County, Georgia when the estate of Jacob Myers was sold. From there he went to Hall County, Georgia then to Walker County, Alabama.
Per John H. Myers, Abraham moved from Pennsylvania to Virginia about 1785. However, he is placed in Chester County, South Carolina in 1785 with Sarah

Lewis Hyner md Nancy Myers. In his will (Jackson County, Georgia records) signed 21st February 1830 and probated 3rd May 1830
Lewis left a parcel of land to his daughter, Mary Milsaps ("land on
which Hiram Milsaps lives") to be held for Hiram's son, John. Hiram
was known to be a wastrel and evidently Lewis didn't trust him not to
sell or lose the land. Years later there was a suit in Chickasaw County between some of the Hiners and the children of John Millsaps
regarding lands which had belonged to their mother, Rebecca Margaret Hyner Millsaps which eventually John's children won.

XXXIII. FIRST SETTLERS OF NORTHWEST GEORGIA
From the Northwest Georgia Historical and Genealogical Society Quarterly
The first white families to settle in northwest Georgia were of three
basic groups, those who lived among the Cherokees and sometimes even took Indians for wives, those who settled the lands of the 1820 and 1821 land lotteries and later moved to the 1832 land cession, and the persons who moved to what is now northwest Georgia from adjoining states.Although the 1832 lands were dispensed through land lotteries open only to Georgians, few Georgians except those of
Hall, Habersham, and Rabun counties moved to these lands. Most of the
Georgians who were winners in the 1832 Cherokee and Gold lotteries preferred to sell the lots they won to land speculators who in turn sold the lots to new settlers from adjoining states.
Reproduced below are letters from the Governor William Rabun Papers,
Telamon Cuyler Collection, Special Collections University of Georgia Libraries,
identifying white persons who moved into the Cherokee lands that were soon afterward part of the 1820 and 1821 land lotteries. From these people and their families would come many of the settlers of the 1832 land cession.

Notes for GEORGE WASHINGTON MYERS:
Lived at Hanby Mills on the Mullberry River, near where Abraham and Sarah Myers lived when they came to Alabama
This GW Myers family came after he died in AL to Texas, and Nicie D. brought her 10 sons along with her, but they did not come till after the Civil War in the 1870's after the census. They came to Hill County which is not far from Falls where Jarrett was living, but I do not know if that was an influence or not. Nicey D. moved to OK. about 1890? So I am told.

In 1876 Nicey D. Myers, residing on the Mullberry River near Hamby Mills, on 140 acres of land, applied to the United States Government for Compensation for property, or destroyed by U.S. Forces during the War Between the States. Nicey stated that in March 1865, General Wilson and his Corps of men seized from her farm, 700 lbs. of flour valued at $35.00, 99 lbs bacon value $15.00, 1 saddle value $5, 6 meal sacks value $3, (Commission #12985, office #66, report #6) of the Souther Claims Commission. Her request was denied because of her support of the Southern cause and her failure to prove property loss."

Moved from Georgia to Alabama between 1832 and 1834
Thomas Wilson was reported to be a lawyer in Ga. They lived near her family in Ga. and Alabama in the eastern part of Walker Co. He was said to be a highly educated man and was the only man in that part of the country that voted for Abraham Lincoln. He is probably buried in the Old Hopewell Primitive Cemetery, but there is no marker. Mary , wife of Thomas Wilson, b 29 May 1802, d. 29 Dec, 1859, is buried in the private Myer's Cemetery. I'm supposed to visit the site later this week before the snakes come out of hibernation.
Thomas and Mary both entered land inTownship 13 . All their government land was issued from the Old Huntsville Land Office.
Mable Myers reported the following children of Thomas and Mary Myers Wilson: William, Sarah Ann(Sally), Martha Jane, Cicero, Nancy Ann, Mary Elizabeth, Jacob Abraham, Thomas Jefferson, and Margaret T.

The Obituary of Marcus LaFayette Dowdy
M. L. Dowdy (Marcus Lafayette) was born in Monroe County, Georgia on 5 Dec. 1824, died 5 Feb. 1897; age 72 years and 2 months. Died with congestion of the heart. Only lived 30 minutes after he was taken. He had went to Hico on business; was taken sick in town; a doctor was called in at once, but to no avail; the angel of death had come, and taken him home.
Brother Dowdy emigrated to Alabama with his parents in 1834. In 1845 was married to Miss Bettie Sides (Elizabeth). To this union was born 12 children; four are dead and eight living. In 1850 emigrated to Houston County, Texas. Professed a hope in Christ in 1860. United with Antioch church same year. Was baptized by Elder Mose Denman. In 1871 drew his letter and moved to Erath County, Texas and united with Hopewell church. In 1879 was ordained to the office of deacon. Surely a good man and true friend to Israel is gone. He was known by all Baptist in this country, especially the care worn minister. His doors were ever open to brethren; always ready to help them in time of need. Much could be said of this great man, but this is sufficient. The older sister wants the Baptist to know that her door will be open to them as long as she lives.

The Obituary of Mrs. Bettie Dowdy
My dear precious mother, died the second day of October 1909. She was nearly 86 years old. Oh, it was sad to give up dear mother, but we cannot weep as those who have no hope, for our loss is her eternal gain. she has lain her armor by and is sweetly sleeping by the side of our dear father in Clairette grave yard.
She had been a member of the Primitive Baptist Church about 50 years. Sleep on, dear mother, and take thy rest. We know you are sweetly resting with dear Jesus and His holy angels, far above this old sin-cursed earth. Dear Brethren, pray for us.

Notes for NANCY ELIZABETH MYERS:
NANCY ELIZABETH MYERS, WIFE OF WILLIAM FIELDEN
Nancy E. Myers was born in Alabama, March 11, 1858, daughter of Winifred and Burgess Myers. During early childhood she moved with her parents, brothers and sisters to Ellis Prairie, MO., where she grew to womanhood. February 10, 1878, she was married to Wm. Fielden. She was a teacher both before and after marriage. A few years after marriage she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and friend and united with the Liberty Missionary Baptist church of Texas county, Mo. In 1889, she and her husband became charter members of Sucess Missionary Baptist church, where their membership remained until they united with the First Baptist church of Bolivar, Mo. She was a faithful and consistent Christian, a thiter, a devoted wife, a loving mother and eer ready to help the sick and needy and give comfort to the bereaved. To this union were born two children, Dora and Lucie. The latter, Mrs. Moss F. Smith was with her during her last illness. She departed this life Monday, March 14, 1927, at 10 a.m., after a 12 day illness of measles. She had attained the age of 69 years and 3 days. Dr. J.H. Bridges was the attending physician and wife relatives and friends rendered faqithful and loving service and thought all was going well until just a short time before her departure. The change came as a great surprise to all. A weak heart, no doubt, was the cause of fatality. Telegrams were sent to her daughter, Miss Dora Fielden who was teaching in South Mountain Industrial Institure, Bostic, North Carolina; also to her brother, J.S. Myers of Ellis Prairie, Mo. Mis Fielden came as quickly as bus and train service could bring her and arrived at 9:40 a.m., Wednesday March 16. The funeral service was conducted at the home at 2 p.m., March 17, by Rev. G.A. Bauey, pastor fo First Baptist church of Bolivar, Mo. The passages of scripture used were taken from the Gospel of John, eleventh chapter and 2 Corinthians, chapters four and five. The song service was rendered by a mixed quartet, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Blue, Mrs. Mildred Millican and Mr. E.T. Devin. The sons used were, "O Think of the Home Over There", "Does Jesus Care", and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Beautiful floral offerings were sent by neighbors, friends, Mission Circle No. 2 and the Ministerial comference of Southwest Baptist College. She leaves to mourn their loss, an aged husband, Wm. Fielden, the two daughters and her brother already mentioned; also two sisters, Miss Nicie J. Myers, and Mrs. .W. Hart of Redlands, California, besided a host of nieces, nephews and friends. After the funeral service, her body was laid to rest in the city cemetery. (There was more but was omitted from site). 3

26. JAMES FITZ8 SITTON (PHILIP7, PHILIP6, PHILIP5, JOHN4, BENJAMIN3, JOHN2 SUTTON, JR., JOHN1) was born May 05, 1828 in Walker County, Al., and died 1890 in Saint Jo, Searcy Co., Ark.. He married SARAH R. WILSON Abt. 1847, daughter of THOMAS WILSON and EMMA MEYERS. She was born July 22, 1828 in Georgia, and died March 04, 1917 in Saint Jo, Searcy Co., Ark..
Notes for JAMES FITZ SITTON:
James Sitton was born in Walker County, Alabama, where his parents, Philip and Polly Blythe Sitton, settled after they left the Mills River Valley of Henderson County, N. C. James was a staunch supporter of the policies of Abraham Lincoln, and was forced to leave Alabama with his family. After a short time in Illinois, he went to Missouri where he remained until after the Civil War. Going from there to Arkansas, he was a resident of Saint Jo, Searcy County, until his death in 1890. He was a man of pronounced view, and fearless in the manner of expressing them. He served as Justice of the peace in Alabama, Missouri, and Arkansas, as office for which he was amply qualified.
James was a farmer, iron worker, and he preached on the side, being a faith-healer. It was reported that people came to him and he traveled many miles on horseback to pray and "lay hands" on the sick.
He married Sarah J. Wilson, Daughter of Thomas Wilson, who moved from South Carolina to Georgia in pioneer days. She died in Searcy County 1n 1917 at age 90.
