Susan Angeline (Willett) Pickens

Born December 22, 1830 in McNairy Co., Tenn.

Died December 17, 1885 in Van Zandt Co., Texas

The inscription on Sarah's tombstone says "Our Mother Dear is buried here".

Susan Angeline Willett married Matthew Pickens before 1849. They were living in McNairy Co. Tennessee in 1850. No children at that time. Matthew and wife Susan moved to Texas about 1860, and setteled in Phalba, located in the southern part of Van Zandt Co., just South of Canton. They had 7 children: David F. (Dave) Pickens; Sarah Rebeker Pickens; Mary Jane Pickens; G. Carline "Callie" Pickens; Robert William (Bob) Pickens; Richard Lindsay "Dick" Pickens; and Nathan Columbus"Dutch" Pickens. Susan & Matthew Pickens are buried in New Hope Cemetery, Van Zandt Co., Texas. Also buried in this cemetery are grandsons, Cameron, Cecil and Decator Pickens, sons of Nathan Columbus "Dutch" and Jane Abney Pickens. Buried in this cemetery also is one of the children's other grandparents Sara Ann (Summers) Abney. Sarah Ann's husband Francis Marion Abney is buried in College Mound Cem. in Kaufman Co., Tx. .
