Comments:  A private in Co.I, 5th regiment of MS. Infantry.  He enlisted in state troops in Scoobe, MS.  He died of pneumonia while on furlough in DeKalb, Kemper Co., MS.  His widow, Lavinia, applied for his Civil War pension and in it she states his death as Jan. 1863 and that he served 2 1/2 yrs. She received his pension from the state of Texas, Upshur Co.until her death.  She and her fam. came with the Cornelius Nicholson fam. in 1872.
