These are some early schools,
mainly private, in Upshur County. Christian School - 1880's - Run by Charlie Christian Concord School - 1880's - Run by Toll Buie East Mountain School - 1880's - Run by Tom Jones Floyd School - Run by Mrs. Eugenia Greer Floyd
in the Glenwood area. Glenwood School - 1869 - Run by Rev. W. H. McClelland Martinburg School - 1880's - (Area now known as Mattinburg) In present day Camp County. Moncrief School - 1880's - Run by Miss Naomi Moncrief O'Byrne's Mill School - 1880's - Later moved to Union Grove Parson McCelland School - Formerly known as Glenwood School. Burned in 1876 and was not rebuilt. Rock Point School - 1880's - Run by Miss Irene Hart (later Mrs W F Glass) Shady Grove School - 1884 - C. B. Reader started the school. A. F. Shepperd later became a teacher.
