Baggett, Billy 


Billy G. Baggett, of White Oak, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family February 
6, 2006, after a lengthy illness. Visitation was 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at 
Lakeview Funeral Home of Longview. The memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 
8, 2006, at Emanuel Baptist Church in White Oak, with Pastor Jay VanZandt and Dr. James 
Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery, under the arrangements of 
Lakeview Funeral Home of Longview. Billy G. Baggett was born December 8, 1925, in Navarro 
County, to Samuel Shepherd Baggett and Hallie Ester Ballew. He graduated from Blooming 
Grove High School in 1943. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States 
Navy, serving three years. He also attended East Texas Baptist College, Columbia Bible 
College, then later graduated from Baylor University, receiving a B.A. degree in 1956. In 
1958, he graduated from Southwestern Theological Seminary, earning a B.D. He served as a 
pastor, college professor, and administrator for LeTourneau College. Billy G. loved to 
spend time with his family, play golf with his friends, and read. He was a member of 
Emanuel Baptist Church in White Oak. In his retirement years, he faithfully served in the 
homebound ministry and children's church. Billy G. is survived by his wife of 58 years, 
Dorothy Jean Wade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Drue Wade of Gilmer; two daughters, Glenda 
Jean Stewart of Waco, and Martha Jane Schwartz of White Oak; son-in-law, Bob Schwartz; 
grandchildren, Randal Wade Stewart and Karin, Holcomb Stewart, Holly Elizabeth Bourland 
and Mark, Stephen Drue Schwartz, and David Aaron Schwartz; great-grandchildren, Annabel 
and Baker Drue Stewart; and two sisters, Iris Jones and Roberta Warren. He was preceded 
in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Shepherd Baggett; and a brother, Alvin D. 
Baggett. Memorial gifts may be sent to Emanuel Baptist Church Building Fund. For those
