Roland L Wallace Letter - 1921
Roland L. Wallace wrote this to his niece, Effie Wallace Marshall.

R F D - 1 Gilmer Tex Oct 3rd 1921

Mrs. Effie Marshall My Dear Niece
I will try this evening to write you a few lines in answer to your very highly appraise talk when I that came to have a few days ago. I can assure you I was pleased to hear that you were all well and getting on alright - this leaves us all well and getting on as well as could be expected these hard times, the farmers are about done gathering cotton in here crop short about one acre to the bale corn moderately fair our school started this morning with very good attendance as the cotton was about all picked We are having some cool weather at this time but little rain I hope you won’t think hard of me for not writing sooner for my eyes had been in such bad shape I could hardly see to write and don’t know if you can read this or not I am very glad indeed to hear that Charlie was well and getting along alright I wish I could see him, I know I know he is enjoying life. Yes you told me about Emma s sickness. I am glad to hear she is getting on alright now give her and Frank my kindest regards and tell them I say to write to me tell Lee that was a very interesting letter he wrote me I shur enjoyed it very much give all the relatives my kindest regards I would like to see them all tell them to write to me it is a great pleasure in my old age to get letters but hard for me to answer all for it has got to be a job for me to write you wanted to know my Father’s and Mother’s names in full. Father’s name William Newton and Mothers names were Martha Elisabeth they came to Tex from North Alabama Taladega County your Papa was born in Taladega County Alabama I never saw any of Father’s people I was born after Father emigrated to Texas Bro John he went back then during the war when he was wounded he saw their Fathers 4 or 5 Bros and one sister so our Mother told me Mother was a Cornelius I can’t tell you anything about his people he came to Texas in 1839 or 40 and died and was buried in Bowie County in 1848. I was born there in 1844 Well I have told you all I know about the family so I will close by asking you to write again when convenient Mary and children all join me in love to you and the relatives

Well as I failed to get my letter by yesterday I will write a few words here was. . .
On Robert and his folks are all . . . Having . . .
